The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love (better than the debut, I dunno, but it's definitely more cohesive. this music just takes you somewhere else)

All three albums are beautiful in their own way, can't rank that kind of quality, no way.

I haven't listened much to the Tony Banks record, but I'm sure it's highly listenable at least.

You should check out the Axis album! They're a late 70s power trio who's drummer went on to play with Black Sabbath on Mob Rules. All the playing is quality, the songs are catchy and sweet, but they pack a hard rock punch with a hint of Zeppelin flavor. Vocals are nice as well.

The new Slash and Myles Kennedy album is great.

The new STP album is even better, I like it better than Core. Highs may not be as high but consistency and sound and mood and quality melodies and good songs...I like this better.

It's good. But not THAT good.

Agree to disagree:)

Not gonna lie, some of these new songs from Greta Van Fleet show significant improvement in the main area that I criticized their earlier stuff: songwriting. They've got their hooks in the right places, they've built a sense of movement into their arrangements, better melodies so far, and do I even detect slightly less LZ fan pandering here? I mean it's still blatantly obvious these guys imitate Zep, but it's not as much of a turnoff on some of these cuts as it was for me for the last album. I should go back and listen to that and make sure my initial impressions from the singles still hold, but I think they're listening to criticism wisely, without sacrificing what they love, but also understanding what stands between their old material and its critics. Anyway, I still wouldn't call anything I've yet heard great. None of the melodies are phenomenal, none of the solos are memorable, the vocals rarely feel as real as the one's their imitating, and the production still feels bland. However, the bass and drums seem to have stepped up their game, and overall the rhythm section doesn't get boring. Particular kudos for When The Curtain Falls, and Lover, Leaver. Decent songs at worst.

Ok, that album isn't a bad start for him. But there are better ones from that era:

Love It To Death

Killer

Billion Dollar Babies

Welcome To My Nightmare

If you have the chance to buy or hear those, don't hesitate.

I'd heard of some of those being among his best works, but I've yet to find them anywhere. Yesterday was the first time I spotted really anything from him at the record store, and I had the choice between School's Out or From The Inside. Having never heard of the latter, and knowing the title track to the former was a killer tune, I went for School's Out.

From The Inside is fantastic but not an album for a newbie. It's one of those albums where you should be familiar with the his sound before you hear it.

Listening to School's Out now. If those four are really that much better than this, I'll be very happily surprised, because this is awesome!

Then get ready to be happily surprised. School's Out doesn't have shit on Billion Dollar Babies or Welcome To My Nightmare. You can at least put up an argument on it being as good as Love It To Death or Killer but you would probably still lose that debate.
