Can’t stand this overrated Eddie Murphy wannabe.

It's actually not a terrible choice if bringing more TV viewers in is the goal. He won't get political trying to cheese off 48.7% of the population.

Don't get why people think he's funny. I saw some specials from him a while back when he was starting to get popular and he just wasn't funny. How the guy sells arenas out is beyond me.

Eddie Murphy wannabe? There's nothing to compare between the two. Even the older family friendly Eddie Murphy still has his funny moments.

I got called for jury duty in January!  It's terrible to say , but I hope I don't get picked. I'm the kind of person that always has to be doing 2 things at once or I get bored- I always have music on when I drive and I rarely sit and just watch something; I am always knitting, sketching or writing to someone while watching tv or sports. I can sit through a 2 hour movie but if it's much longer I get bored. They already told me I can't sketch (not allowed to take notes) or bring my knitting (the needles are a security hazard ). It's gonna be a loooong week. I should warn them I often doze off in church. Not to mention I hate to be without my music!

With my luck, it will be the week Geddy decides to have book signings in Philly and Washington, DC. too. :banghead:

ETA: I found out that we might be allowed to take notes on court supplied pen and paper, it's up to the judge. Maybe I can rank the Rush songs 1-100 or something!

How do they do jury duty in your state? Here they pick like 1500 people and they give you a random number out of that. You need to call each evening to see if your number has been selected. If it doesn't then you don't even have to go to city hall. You get credited for service even if you're number doesn't come up.

The first time I got picked I was 22. Went down to city hall and just sat there all day. Then got a "thank you, you're not needed" and I was supposedly good for seven years. For whatever reason it took them 15 years to get to me again and I lucked out and got picked on a short week because there was a holiday. Didn't even have to go downtown for anything.

My dad once served on a jury in a armed robbery case. He enjoyed the experience of seeing how a trial was done. So, if you do get picked maybe you'll get an interesting case and you won't be so jumpy having to sit around all day.

Thank you! I'm hoping it will be like that, just because parking there is horrible and I'm spoiled! We do have to call the night before to see if we have to go. It's for our county courthouse trials so I'm not sure how many they pick. I did get called once before and I was in library school right during finals so I got excused. I don't have that reason now so we'll see how it goes! I should be grateful that I didn't get called for our Federal District court in Harrisburg; two of my friends have been through that. Those cases are often sequestered and they did tell my one girlfriend to pack a suitcase and bring it because if she got picked she would be sequestered immediately. (She didn't end up getting picked.) I'm also grateful my family doesn't have much interaction with the court system.

Plantar fascia strain - I don't recommend it.

It hurts ..... :eh: :eh:

I hope it feels better soon! My sister had a bad run in with it but she lives in Florida and wore flip flops too much. Hope you can take it easy and have it heal soon.

I was wearing my usual work shoes one night and stepped on a jagged rock when I was going home one night in 1997, my Dr. said I had 'bruised' my Plantar Facia. That took me out for a few days....OUCH!

20+ years ago for me. Showed up at the court, waited 3 hours, got called. Served as an alternate, guy was on trial for posession of coke w/intent to deliver, got caught with more than half a kilo hidden in the hollowed out soles of a pair of Nikes. Went through trial, but stayed in courtroom during deliberation. Open and shut case, jury was out 45 minutes before convicting, after which we were dismissed. With the intent charge defendant was looking at a 15 year minimum.

Only mildly, but an online check of my library account said a cd set I had returned two weeks ago was still on loan, and therefore overdue. I returned it by a through the wall book drop slot there. Called tyem up and explained, they said they'd record the claim and look for it. Oh well :eh:

Libraries? Those things still exist?

So, it does the same stuff as the internet only you have to leave the house instead?

Yep. Old habits die hard, like old mediums. Hell, on occasion I even use cassette and VHS tapes.

That stuff and much more! :ranton: Our library has a really excellent live music program once a month that has had some pretty good Bluegrass and Americana bands. This month it will be holiday brass. Also, libraries are the #1 place of internet access for people that do not have home access for whatever reason (and you would be surprised, it's a lot of people.)

There was also an interesting feature on NPR the other day about the movies on DVD that libraries have , that for whatever ownership rights reasons, are not and may never be available for streaming but are still available on DVD. Our library has the entire Criterion collection, which is a curated ongoing collection of "important classic and contemporary films on home video. ..." that has really interesting movies. (Big favorites of Lucas, lol.). But this time of year I just end up getting "White Christmas" and "Natl Lampoon Holiday Vacation!" :rant off:

Not having a library or using it would drive me crazy. I love it and I have worked in one (in a jail no less) and I pick up books and stuff weekly. I use Overdrive for audio and e-books all the time. We have a great library system in our county and I use a couple of city libraries too. The internet fills a niche but it will never replace the experience of going to the library, IMHO

I would suggest taking a 12 hour shot after lunch break, I wish I had the last time I was on a jury. I started dozing off and the judge noticed and asked for a break... I have been on jury duty 5 times, two of them I was not selected. One time I was sniffling and sneezing and the other I was not chosen (so I believe) because of my work place (county jail). The longest I served was a week on an injury case. Others were 1 to 2 day for DUI and other auto accidents.

Absolutely! Books and cd's for me, movie and TV series Dvds for Karen and I. Karen is watching Christopher Robin as I post, and she has some 20 items she is on a wait list for. I use the internet mostly for videos from YouTube, but some things are just better when supported by a 120 watt sound system and accompanied by buttered popcorn hot and fresh out of the Whirly Pop. Hey, it even makes Rush Dvds look and sound better!

Thanks for the hint! Yes, sometimes afternoons can be long! And providing reading material for inmates is so important. My daughter works at a public library now. Part of what she does is evaluate (according to guidelines) the county inmate requests and deliver them with another woman, out to the jail every other week.
