DC is caught between needing to mimic the near perfect, if not repetitive, mix of drama, comedy & action of Marvel and trying to be a darker, more adult comic movie based on comics that have no need to be dark & serious (outside Batman v. The Joker).

Plus...marvel basically owns the comic book movie genre and has almost worn it out so that there’s seemingly no room for more comic book movies outside of Batman.

As there are decades of stories to adapt (or original screenplays they’d like to write), there’s plenty of room for comic book movies.

Saying there’s no more room for comic book movies is the same as saying there’s no more room for horror movies, sci-fi, etc.

I mean there doesn’t seem to be room outside of Marvel and Batman.

I see.

There not being any room outside of Marvel and Batman seems more of a current writing problem than there not actually being any room. At the moment, DC seems a bit lazy with their live action movies. It’s certainly not a lack of capable actors since Marvel has generally done pretty well with their casting.

Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter would be excellent films. All they need is good actors and good scripts. Easier said than done, I guess....

The Ryan Reynolds GL flick was garbage. I don’t like him, the Deadpool character, or the movie BUT he’s a good fit for that role. As GL? Poor choice.

Martian Manhunter could be interesting. And they wouldn’t be limited by feeling they need to cast a young actor since Manhunter would likely use a method similar to how Marvel got Vision’s appearance down.

I won't miss Cavil man of steel and batman V superman were both awful.......i'm indifferent to Afflack. as a matter of fact i don't object to any of this. DC needs serious work,

Mick

The stench of those movies were not the fault of the actors.

i agree. but i do think DC need this reset.

if actors most go for that so be it.

How would you go about resetting DC onscreen?

Marvel style wherein each movie builds on the entire landscape?

Independent hero flicks which may or may not reference other characters?

One thing I think would be cool is a one-off Batman flick set in the 1930s (due to that’s when he was first developed) which focuses on his detective skills. Of all the appearances he’s made on the big screen already, this skill still hasn’t been exploited yet. It’d be a nice change. Less tech & Batmobile gadgets and more detective/mystery/noir & brawling + acrobatics.

Other than that, as first mentioned above by Principled Man, a Martian Manhunter movie could be good. That’s just begging to be made as a sci-fi bonanza. And if I continue my thought from the previous paragraph of a 1930s Batman flick, I’d place Manhunter in the 50s and all of that which it entails. You know what I’m saying here.
