I have a lot going on and haven't been paying attention to off season moves at all. I have no idea what is going on around the league.

I hear Ovechkin will play for SKA Saint Petersburg next season. ;)

Here's hoping Tom Wilson suffers painful, debilitating and career-ending hemorrhoids.

  My Caps fan daughter keeps sending me photos of that stinker with the Cup. . .

Actual photos of tonight's storm in the Tampa area, lol !

Yeah we have been getting a lot of summer time thunder storms laced with what our region is famous for, Lightning. As most of you may know Tampa is known as the Lightning capital of the world, however it really is only #1 of North America. The #1 spot is shared by 2 places according to a compilation of weather statistics that NASA actually made a map of. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Lake Maracaibo of Venezuela are the two most lightning stuck places of the world. I know I have mentioned this in past threads but the word Tampa was taken from the native Calusa Indians (an off shoot of the Seminole) which most historians agree meant "Sticks of FIRE". So in Calusa Indian language Tampa meant Lightning.

The pic here is one of the 2 Tesla coils that are in the Amalie Arena and when Both are lit up creates quite the spectacle. Especially when they're fired up after every goal! I can't wait to see them again!

Lets GO Lightning

Thanks for the info about the Bolts name and where it came from, I didn't know that.

Yzerman is being very vague, not sure what he is doing. One year left on his contract and then....we'll see? Leaves everyone wondering what's happening.

You would actually be surprised how many "native" Tampainians do not know the origins of the name of the city of their birth.

As far as Yzerman it is still a bit of a shock bit it seems his replacement Julien Brise Bois has been Yzermans long time assistant and has been a significant part of building the current lightning team. There are plenty of rumors still swirlling about this whole thing and the statement made by Steve that family was the deciding factor. But most speculators are saying this is an engine to reconnect with the Redwings. I personally hope (pray) that is not a matter of a medical diagnosis that has made Mr. Steve reevaluate what is truely important in this finite place we call Earth. My prayers are for him and his family!!!

:o wOw am I glad last nights game was only a preseason game with the Bolts falling to Carolina 4-1. My Lightning appeared to be skating with stickum on their skates but did make up for it by being completely out of sync! I was so looking forward to seeing a competitive effort as coach made his 1st line filled with "star power" By the 2nd period it seems the A players still need a lot of ice time to get in the swing of things  . Like I mentioned before I'm glad it was only a preseason game. looking to see improvement Tampa host Nashville.

GO Bolts!!

Well, here is a story from our local paper, we are having a preseason game here in SLC between the LA Kings and the Vancouver Canucks on the 24th. Trevor Lewis is from Salt Lake City and Daniel Brickley is a childhood friend who is now also playing for the Kings. It is a great story about how they met playing rec hockey and their dads became buddies too. One of the fathers has terminal cancer so he is going to get to see the two of them play together Monday night.

So is everyone ready for hockey to start? Who thinks Gritty is the ugliest mascot ever? Let's get the thread going...I am very curious to see how Karlson does with the Sharks, that was a big surprise that they were the winners in that bidding war.

Blackhawk Rush, how do you see the Blackhawks season shaping up? I really haven't heard much about them over the summer except that they have Cam Ward as the backup goalie. Is Crow going to be ready to play?

Blues Chica, do you think the Pens will rebound this year? Crimsonmystmemory, what is your take on the Bolts?

I am glad it is hockey season again, I need a distraction and especially since my college football team is NOT inspiring confidence. :rage:

Hi Rhyta! Good topics! I agree, Gritty is horrible!  We saw a lot of him on the news since we are in central PA. All we could think was that the strange looking Philly Fanatic baseball mascot has inspired a lot of love, so they went with something else weird?? I don't get it! :P

I have my fingers crossed for the Pens! Pens still have Crosby and Malkin which is great. Hopefully Kris LeTang will rebound and have a better season than last year- after returning from his injury time off he never really came back like he was before. He had an inconsistent year so I'm hoping this year will be better. Same with goalie Matt Murray, although he was so great when he stepped in as a rookie that you had to expect a little backsliding. (My husband's always telling him on TV- "Retire now! It'll never get better than 2 back to back Cups when you're 23!")

And we still have Phil Kessel! He just turned 31 yesterday. :ebert: :ebert:

Our Hershey Bears (Caps AHL team) open this weekend and we have tickets!
