Recently bought all of Breaking Bad for a bargain price of £15.

I need to see that first don't I?

I don't know. I recently watched all of Breaking Bad over about a month period. Loved it. I didn't really love Saul though. I watched Episode 1 of his spin off, and just wasn't that intrigued.

Yeah, it's certainly fair to pass judgement on a show with long term storytelling after one episode. It does get much better. My only complaint is it's taking them longer than I thought to get to him transforming into the Saul we know from Breaking Bad. The signs are there in the show but it hasn't fully come together yet on Saul.

Why do I need to spend hours watching a character I already said I don't really care for develop? I watched Breaking Bad and loved it. Saul isn't the reason why. I gave his show a shot, because I really enjoyed BB, but it didn't really hold my interest.

Right now I easily pick Breaking Bad over Saul. But Saul has yet to finish so who knows what I might think in a few years if the show ends very strongly.

Breaking Bad = Heroin

Better Call Saul = Methadone

Saul > BB

It's a coin flip for me at this point.

I prefer Saul. A bit smarter and more deliberate is how I'd describe it. Bad had more action, for sure.

I found that breaking Bad had many more "OMG, I can't believe that!" moments than Better call Saul has had, and also many more cliff hangers. Better call Saul is a great show but Breaking Bad will always be my favorite show of all time, I think. Edited by snowdogged

Well, I enjoyed this season's first episode, as it offered plenty of everything that I like about the show. Intense, deliberately slow advancement of the plot built around a constant tension created by gaps in what we actually get to see. As much as I enjoy that, I can see how many people wouldn't want to work so hard as a viewer.

For me, it's not so much about the work (I loved the first season of True Detective, and that moved very slowly the first few episodes). I don't really like the character Saul, so unless the show popped for me, it just wasn't worth it.

I can see not liking Saul from how he was portrayed on Breaking Bad. I've enjoyed learning how he came to be that way.

It was.

But is it really that relevant to the Saul story? Maybe it leads to that but right now I don't see the connection. I'm watching for the evolution of Jimmy/Saul not that interested in anything else.

Just about every show has subplots. The one's in BCS are as interesting as the main plot, imo. What do you do when Saul isn't on screen?

They are all intertwined (Saul, Mike, Gus, Nacho, etc.) How are we suppose to know what's going on with Mike if they are not showing us what the people that he is dealing with are doing?. You seem to want it to be more of a one dimensional show. Edited by snowdogged

I don't want it to be one dimensional but I started running out of patience with the show last season. I didn't think we would be in season four and still not have Jimmy's transformation into Saul complete by now. It didn't take Walt too long to break bad. Why the hell have we had to wait so long for Saul? I just don't think following the walking dead format of extremely slow burn was the best way to go with it.

He is the most interesting guy on both shows, imo.
