ROD of Toronto

His Byzantine Gay Batman Lookalike Sex Slave

A weird album to be sure but some great songs and heavy riffing! No idea what his wacky lyrics are all about, Rod must be having a mid-life crisis or something.

I could explain the lyrics to you, but then I'd have to kill you! :laughing guy:

And hey, part II is almost 100% written.

The lyrics cover his 3 Js: Joggings, Journeys, and Jockstraps

it's a bit early to tell atm

But if you've already heard Firepower than no it isn't.

I have and while it's certainly a top 3 album (so far), the year is still far from over.

But once Firepower was released the year was over.

Greta Van Fleet could be in the hunt...

I didn't care for them really at all on their first singles, but I remember thinking the latest one was a decent song. Maybe they'll spread there wings a bit more? It's not as if they're untalented musicians, I just didn't hear anything I'd rather listen to than actual Led Zeppelin the first time around.

The all encompassing awesomeness that is Firepower made sure of that. Once it was unleashed on the world all other albums were rendered obsolete.

Still wondering how the new F+TM album, released months later, made it's way onto my list above Firepower then. Curious thing that. One might even postulate I like it better. What an entertaining notion! :poke:

My album of the year is still easily Tribulation's Down Below.

Myles Kennedy and Tremonti's albums is way up there too.

I'm really looking forward to the new Behemoth.

Disappointment of the year goes to Machine Head and their bizarre and sporadically genius mess of an album Catharsis

I listened to the Tribulation album this morning, and forgot how great it was. Thank you for reminding me about it!

I think its been toppled by YYNOT's debut! What am exceptional and beautiful sound! At first I was like "this sounds a bit too much like Rush" but as I listen more I hear more and more personality and exuberance and I love the lead singer! Can't think of her name but she's an unlikely combination of Geddy Lee and Hayley Wiliams. Absolutely love it!

And I love Tribulation, as well as Avatar. I still need to buy both bands recent albums.

I agree, when Rush's new album comes out this year, and they have their 2018 tour live album, those will be the top 2

At this point, I would rather have a second album from YYNot than a new Rush album if I had to pick between the two.

Oh gosh yes. The new YYNot album is better than the last two Rush albums easily.

The new albums by Voivod and Clutch arrived in my folder this week, so we have two more strong contenders.

Rod, let us know about Voivod ... I;ve heard just the one song - Obsolete Beings

The first few listens left me pretty disappointed

It gets better after that. Obsolete Beings is the first song, and the one I liked the least. This is not the best Voivod album by any means, but it will please the fans. The dissonant chords are there, Snake's intentionally lazy vocals are there, as is the overall weirdness of a Voivod album.

I'll actually interview them this Saturday - let me know if you have any questions for them!

So, YYNOT.

I just checked out Kingdom Come, Invisible Heart and The Curtain Falls on YouTube and this is very good stuff. The Rush influence is obvious but they do have their own vibe going on. Will certainly give the album a shot.

i've had numerous but if you were to ask me what holds the spot right now?

YYNot's debut easily.

Mick

Now the dust has had time to settle, I really agree that A Dying Machine is too long. Tribulation are falling down my list a little. I thought they might. And Myles Kennedy YYNot dominate the top spot.

I love the new Ghost and Avatar albums too. Next month we have a new Thrice album and rumour has it we may have new Within Temptation before 2018 is over. Plus the Lacuna Coil live album.
