Setlist from the opening show of the European tour. Pretty good except for the fourth song. What buzz killer after that start. That song has no business being in there.

I thought it was a great set, even though with Maiden we ALWAYS get a feeling that it could be much better. No songs that were never played live, reasonably deep cuts and a few seemingly unavoidable repeats.

I would certainly travel to Toronto to see them again if they bring this over to North America. I doubt they'll ever play here again. When they came here in 2012 Bruce complained during the show how the amphitheater is shit because the stage wasn't big enough to fit all their props lol.

Yeeeaaahhh!!!!! The show last Saturday in Freiburg was unbelievably good. No sound issues this time and the voice of Bruce is back. The whole show was so much better than the shows I saw on the BoS tour. Absolutely stunning!

Setlist - Very good

Sound - Very good

Stage setting - Fantastic

Vocals - Phenomenal

I like how there was a heavy focus on Piece Of Mind. Aside from Maiden's 2005 Early Days tour, they have skimped over this album pretty much since Somewhere In Time 86-87. I'm not the biggest fan of playing both The Clansman and Sign Of The Cross. I'd like to see them play something from No Prayer For The Dying--not that it's their best by any means, but because they haven't played anything from this for decades and it's criminally under-rated IMO. And for Christ's sake, lose Fear Of The Dark for at least one tour! It's a great song, but has totally warn out it's welcome--it aint no Hallowed. But on another positive note, I'm almost shocked they finally dusted off Flight Of Icarus--and the flamethrower was dope. I'd give this set list an A-, but because FOTD is still being played, I give it a B+. I'm sure this will keep Steve Harris up at night. Edited by GeddyLeeRoth

Do people get why FOTD always gets played? It's because the way the audience sings along with every note of it live. It's a way to get everyone in attendance involved in the show. They could drop it for a tour but I have no problem with it always being played. If the crowd was always silent for it than sure they should have dropped it by now. But the live reaction is still among the best in their set.

I actually love the song. I first heard it as a live song on a compilation of theirs so I've always associated it with that infectious audience energy.

Where you out sailing with the ancient mariner or possibly the ghost of the navigator by any chance?

I might get Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son on vinyl tonight, ya know maybe. Can't be sure.

Would be my first Maiden on vinyl and my first new Maiden in months.

What do people think of that record regardless?

It's my favorite album from them. Musically and vocally the band peaked here. Even they knew there was no place else to go since the two albums that followed were more stripped down and simplistic.

Okay the record store was full of great finds and I just couldn't get SSOSS, but I'll check it out soon. Heard too many good things about it.

I love Seventh, but do not agree they peaked there. Maiden's last few albums were very good, and I think stand up to Seventh certainly. If I had to pick a peak, it would be Powerslave.

As to my opinion of Seventh, I have to say they took the synths they started on Somewhere and went all in. So in a way it's possibly a bit too mired in the eighties. But I still love it. I was never one of the fans that were pissed by maiden breaking their almost promise to never use synths when they released Somewhere, so I was fine with them on Seventh. I also think they work better here and Seventh is a much better album. I like every song and I like that they almost stick to a theme throughout. On the other hand, it isn't at all strong lyrically. Possibly their weakest lyrically since the debut. And I'm a sucker for their historical pieces and literary interpretations, and that's lacking here as well.

But it's quite a bit of fun, far lighter than much of their other work and it worked for me.

In Bruce's bio he said they lacked criticism after Seventh Son. It seemed that their formula couldn't fail, and they could have used some advice for No Prayer.

I'm possibly the only person who likes No Prayer better than Seventh. :)

Seventh is very good, I like every Maiden album except the Blaze ones (which I have to revisit. I have to listen around Blaze. It's not Bruce-centrism, I like Paul's work. Just don't think Blaze fit well. The Clansman is excellent, though). No Prayer is really uneven and I don't like every song, so arguably it's worse than Seventh even for me. But it's high points are better than Seventh's as well.

Assassin is the only song that holds up on that album imo...

Picked it up today, so far proving to be very worth it.

I'm such a sucker for prog...this could be my favorite Maiden album.

Oh, another random note, the actual label of the record is a picture on one side and song listings on the other, so in my haste to get it on, I accidentally put side two on first, lol. So here goes side one.

Well, it is a concept album. You have to hear the story in order.
