Relayer2112
I've always loved Ian Anderson's lyric writing. Thick as a Brick and Baker St. Muse are two great examples. I think in J.T.'s entire body of work, I'd only consider a handful to be weak lyrically. Ian was on top of his game 95% of the time.

Mosher
Great choices in this thread. I'll add a few not yet mentioned: Al Stewart is excellent.Colin Hay is very underrated.Greg Graffin and Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion are fantastic, well heralded in punk.I'd say Waits, but he's pretty heralded whether people listen to him or not.PJ Harvey is great.Mirel Wagner is pure poetry.I'm missing many, hope someone gets the rest. Lyrics are by far the most important part of music to me. Glad Ian was mentioned, as well as Earle and Marley. On the Crowded House note, I'll add Neil's brother Tim and Phil Judd from Split Enz, their seventies material gets overlooked by Neil's later (deserved) success with crowded house.

invisible airwave
Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams The rest of his stuff is pretty so-so but that song, fantastic! Great song. I do love me some 80s Bryan Adams every now and then. Same here for 80s childhood nostalgia. My mom had Reckless when it came out and I even had Waking Up The Neighbors when I was 11. Run To You is a fave of mine and It’s Only Love with Tina Turner is one of the best duets ever.

Entre_Perpetuo
is Bowie under-appreciated. If he is, ever, he shouldn't be... at all. Dylan may be a poet, but Bowie always has me at hello.
