Alice In Chains.

But they're metal, so is Soundgarden. Both got more in common with Sabbath than whatever "grunge" is supposed to be. The other three are rock bands.

i'm of of the opinion that "grunge was a marketing label. nothing more.

i could be off base. but that's how it's always come across to me.

Soundgarden is among my favorite bands anymore. Pearl Jam is great too, AIC has some awesome stuff, STP is consistently good, and Nirvana has grown on me a little in the past couple years.

But Soundgarden is easily the best. Who else could even write songs like Fell On Black Days, Black Hole Sun, Burden In My Hand, Rusty Cage, Like Suicide... The list goes on.

R.I.P. To too many of these guys though. :(

No doubt about that last part. A shame it seems that the tortured souls that create such great art are unable to find enough joy in this life to want to hang around.

I thought STP for the most part blew their wad on the debut album. I remember myself and many others being blown away at the time that something as good as Core was their first album. They sounded like such a confident and experienced band already. There was no finding their sound or anything like that. They came out of the gate on complete fire. The second album is very good but I don't think they ever came close to reaching the greatness of the debut.

of the ones I've heard

Superunknown

Ten

Badmotorfinger

Vitalogy

Dirt

In Utero

Vs.

Nevermind

Down On The Upside

And on another day, Down On The Upside might skyrocket past Dirt. There's some genius on there, but you have to read between the lines to find it.

Funny thing music, I think Core is their worst album. Too derivative. Their later albums utilized their influences much better rather then being simply derivative. Better melodies, better hooks, better songs
