goose
The Star Wars flicks are currently sitting at 5-4 with me. It’s risky! This will be good, I think, with a vibe like Rogue 1 but less entangled with the Skywalker saga (which is totally played out).

I thought Last Jedi was going to be good (because I enjoyed Force Awakens and Rogue One AND Luke was returning) BUT...

LedRush
I liked the film a lot. Fun but not trying too hard for laughs. Authentic without relying too heavily on callbacks. It hot almost all the right notes for me. It’s obviously early, but I think this will settle in the 3-5 range for best SW film.

Chewie and the Han/Chewie interplay are perhaps the best parts of this movie.

I've read a couple reviews that have said the movie was just wall-to-wall callbacks. In thinking about it, I guess they have a point. But a lot of what they called callbacks I think of as indispensable parts of the story (I mean, do Chewie, Lando and the Falcon really count) or things that just look like they're naturally there...not forced. When the two guys from the Mos Eisley cantina showed up in R1, it completely took me out of the movie. Basically everything with C3PO and R2 were forced in the prequels and didn't comport with what we knew about them. This movie only had one moment that seemed too heavy-handed for me, and it actually becomes an intriguing (and potentially essential) plot point. Todem
The movie was simply fantastic. If you are an old school Star Wars fan (not the crazy nit picky nutty freaking nerds) this is in your wheelhouse. Great fun. And I can’t wait for another one. No doubt a sequel or two are coming.

Derek19
When "Solo: A Star Wars Story" was in theatres, I didn't see it, and I haven't watched it on d.v.d., and blu-ray. With it being a Han Solo prequel movie, especially without Harrison Ford in it, and going by the previews, and commercials, I didn't think, and feel I would like it. chemistry1973
I thought it was fine enough. The problem with the films is that new characters tend to resemble other characters that have already been established. I would’ve liked a little more depth - more about Han’s parents, more about his stint in the Empire’s military (who are they fighting btw)? I think with these characters, in the newer films, there is no angst or existential crisis. Nothing really interesting under the surface. Woody Harrelson brings gravitas to everything so he’s an exception. With the Marvel characters, there is pain serving as a sort of motivation to being heroic. Han reallysuffers none of that. He’s just only aloof. I think I would’ve made Han a little darker in the origin story - show his military disillusionment more. Show him relish war and military life until it got real. It would’ve made more sense to me if he came from means initially. Show how his maverick side develops.
