The Supreme Court struck down a federal law that prohibits sports gambling Monday in a landmark decision that gives states the go-ahead to legalize betting on sports.

The court ruled 6-3 to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, a 1992 law that barred state-authorized sports gambling with some exceptions. It made Nevada the only state where a person could wager on the results of a single game.

Perhaps counterintuitively, widespread legalization if gambling will likely reduce the risk of a match being thrown, as there will be more parties with an interest in keeping things on the level. So this is a good thing.

It's even better that the hypocritical law has been exposed and eliminated. There was no valid reason for allowing just one state to have sports betting.

Great news.

I'm not a sports better in general (minus being a total degenerate for fantasy football), but I appreciate legal choice.

Now if online poker ever becomes fully legal and regulated in the U.S....I'll dance naked in the streets.

There’s really no justification for a law that is designed to protect us from ourselves.

May as well get a chunk of tax revenue.

Side note: I won a hundred bucks on a $2 scratchy today. I buy like one a month, because I never carry cash. Yay me!

Actually, they don't want tithing from lottery money. I even had a bishop once in the mid-90's who wasn't sure I should be paying on my band income, which was significant, but all from bars.

These days I just pay online every Wednesday morning, as soon as I see my check deposited.

you found the right bishop. Stay away from the one that took Harry Reid's filthy lucre.
