TRF's second 100 "deep cut" songs

It hasn't really been brought up yet(afaik)so I'm wondering how exactly do we define "deep cut" here?

A song you rarely, if ever, heard or hear on the radio.

Or lesser known songs by bands. If a song is well known among fans even if it's not heard on the radio then it still isn't really a deep cut(according to another poster anyway).

This. Out On The Tiles would be a Zeppelin deep cut, whereas Let's Build a Car would not be a Swell Maps deep cut, because even though Out on the Tiles has been heard by five orders of magnitude more people than Let's Build a Car, if you know Swell Maps at all, you know Let's Build a Car, whereas many people who are somewhat familiar with Zeppelin might not know all the tracks on LZ III.

On top of this you get into a subjective notion of "deep" being not just under the radar, but deserving of greater visibility. So speaking of Zeppelin, I had listed Poor Tom as a deep track because I think it's an awesome track found on an album of mostly-forgettable leftovers (IMO; still good tracks because it's Zeppelin after all), whereas I wouldn't list the objectively similar (in terms of status) Ozone Baby as a deep track, because I think it deserves its relative obscurity (relative; nothing released by Zeppelin is obscure). Again, this last way of looking at the question is purely subjective and why of course this kind of thread is interesting; if not for this consideration, one could simply list any non-single or overlooked track, no matter how good or bad it might be, but that wouldn't be interesting.

Maybe the best deep cut would be the under the radar song -- little known by the public at large -- that fans of the band know and love... the relatively obscure song that really shouldn't be if more people had good taste.

Obviously I've overthought this, but short of it is that if it's not a hit no one should complain.

John Deacon is often recognized as Queen's secret weapon. The quiet bassist responsible such mega hits as Another One Bites The Dust, I Want To Break Free, and the oh so perfect You're My Best Friend (the second song he ever wrote iirc). This is one of his lesser known gems, or just songs I guess, since everything he wrote was a gem. Always been among my favorite Queen deep cuts, and John sounds beautiful on the spanish guitar here (yes that's him!).

Can't say what my favorite Queen track is but this is as close as any (IILWMC, '39, It's Late, etc., too many to narrow down). Wouldn't be surprised if Queen ends up the most represented group between the two lists.

I must say, this forum has turned me on to Drowse more than my own listening to ADATR ever did, lol. I never really cared much for it till I came here. And that I mean I loved it, but didn't think it was special compared to the rest of Queen's awesomeness. Still blows most other bands away.

It's the sad-eyed, goodbye, yesterday moments I remember

It's the bleak street, weak-kneed partings I recall

It's the mistier mist

The hazier days

The brighter sun

And the easier lays

There's all the more reason for laughing and crying

When you're younger and life isn't too hard at all

It's the fantastic drowse of the afternoon Sundays

That bored you to rages of tears

The unending pleadings, to waste all your good times

In thoughts of your middle aged years

It's a vertical hold, all the things that you're told

For the everyday hero it all turns to zero

And there's all the more reason for living or dying

When you're young and your troubles are all very small

Out here on the street

We'd gather and meet

And scuff up the sidewalk with endlessly restless feet

Half of the time

We'd broaden our minds

More in the poolhall than we did in the schoolhall

With the downtown chewing-gum bums

Watching the nightlife, the lights and the fun

Never wanted to be the boy next door

Always thought I'd be something more

But it ain't easy for a smalltown boy

It ain't easy at all

Thinkin' it right, doin' it wrong

It's easier from an armchair

Waves of alternatives

Wash at my sleepiness

Have my eggs poached for

breakfast I guess

I think I'll be Clint Eastwood

Jimi Hendrix, he was good,

William The Conqueror

Now, who else do I like?

I was only going to post a couple lines from the song, but I realized upon looking them up I'd never actually read them all before. This has to be Roger's best lyric, if not one of Queen's best lyrics.

How exactly is the opening track from a debut album that has sold 15 million copies in the US a deep cut?
