J2112YYZ
I once thought that they might still record an album or two again but just not tour anymore. But it's been six years since Clockwork and there is no news. You know how fast news travels these days. If they were getting together to record we would certainly have heard about it. Plus, what's the incentive to record a new album? They won't take it on the road and play it. Album sales are shit these days for anyone who isn't pop, rap or country. Would they even sell enough copies to cover the costs of recording and promoting the album without a tour? Probably not really worth the time and effort overall. I get why someone might be upset with the way Rush ended. They never said that R40 was it with words. The setlist and what Neil did at the end of the last show said everything they needed to in order to say farewell. They gave us all they could over the years and Neil's retirement was completely valid and understandable. Honestly Rush really didn't have anything left to prove after Clockwork. They've left a great legacy.
JohnnyBlaze
definitely not, so long as you have understanding and respect for the band's reasons to retire. pretty bothered by it myself, no new Rush ever again isnt something to feel good about I dont understand there reasons. Nothing should end RUSH, But yes i kind of do get it, Im positive someday they will return, Fingers Crossed Toes crossed :hail:Neil Peart has been in pain for a number of years drumming. He decided to go out at the top of his game and now can spend time with his family. After what happened to him in the 90s, I'll never fault him for that decision. The band left on top. How many bands/artists can you count that could claim that? I understand that, I wasnt trying to be bitter about it, I love Neil very much - I just want them to make another record I just hope they are all doing well, Alex is my hero and the nicest one in the band, I would be thrilled if he made another solo album with Les claypool on bass !!!! :smoke:Ain't gonna happen. Yes it will happen RUSH will return, Its in there blood Mark my words :Neil: Neil’s blood told him to retire and enjoy family life and his hobbies more. Geddy’s blood told him to collect more bass guitars and write a book on them. Alex’s blood told him to do side projects including working with various musicians. Digital Dad
Well it will be 3 years since the last tour, they pretty much said that would be the last major tour and Neil is calling himself retired. Yeah it is wrong. Sorry bud.
jnoble
Rush is over. They're not suddenly coming back to record new music. Also Geddy's voice is shot. Sad but you have to accept it

Eventually we all stop doing things we enjoy for a variety of reasons. It's how life works. Enjoy what you have, don't lament what you don't. Wise words professor, Its just upsetting me, I bet they could have done 3 albums since clockwork. Maybe they have some songs stored away, Oh well im a sad sap, I wish them happiness no matter what the choose to be doing thanks :codger: 3 albums SINCE Clockwork? 3 albums since 2012? They hadn’t been that prolific since the early to mid-90s. That’s a LONG time ago even though it may not seem like it.
Rush1978
You can be upset if you would like. It would be best to focus all the upset on Neil, and not punish the two other innocent souls, though. Ive been waiting for a comment like this one, I hate to blame Neil but i know the other guys want to make new music, But they cant move forward due to Neils lack of interest. RUSH are like superheros to me so maybe im the wrong person to discuss this. They cant get a new drummer to replace Peart. They know this and would not make the lame mistake of getting a new drummer like lots of other bands. Plus Neil is the heart and soul of RUSH Due to his awesome lyrics. I hope his absence from RUSH is giving him time to enjoy himself and hopefully give him some new inspiration for future songs. Imagine how great those songs would be, I still think they will return soon, They love making music way to much to stop forever, It must be personal between the fellas I hope they kiss and make up. Not literally LOL

Entre_Perpetuo
Simply put, Neil did what was best for himself and for his family. Perhaps it wasn't best for his fans, but his family is much more important than his fans and his band. Alex and Ged have found other outlets for their musicality, and we definitely haven't heard the last from them, so enjoy that. Neil is done, and I'm not upset with him for a second. He gave more than was ever asked of him by coming back at all after what happened to his first wife and daughter, let alone relentlessly touring and pumping out three more studio albums. He's got a family to be with, a child to raise and a wife grow old(er) and gray(er) with. How is it wrong of him to pack it in? And if you didn't pick up on the signs that R40 was it...I feel sorry for you, but that doesn't give you the right to demand more of the band. You can be upset, but asking for more is a little silly and a little more insensitive. And if you weren't into Rush before R40, I'm sorry you got into a band that just finished being a band. Now you know a little of what I feel like as a 19-year-old Queen fan.

Not literally LOLThere's nothing stopping the Leefson band. Alex has been busy producing other bands and has guested on a number of songs and Geddy has been busy collecting vintage basses. When they record, Geddy & Alex usually come up with the music, and Neil comes in later (at least most recently). They could easily record together (or separately) if they wanted to. Not literally LOLNeil is out of the limelight, and I think for good. One of the best pieces of evidence for this is that his once frequently-updated website has not been touched in two years. He's doing better things now. He doesn't care. I'm sure it's a blast being with your wife and watching your daughter grow up while retired.
toymaker
Write your own Rush songs! All you need to do is pick yourself up a copy of Neil Peart Drums Vol. 1: The Kit for BFD2 /3 as well as http://www.tech21nyc...ddysansamp.html and https://shop.fender....zz-bass&start=1 and finally http://lerxstamps.co...ombo-amplifier/ and http://www.gibson.co...signature.aspx(quick, before Gibson declares bankruptcy!) I was the 8 year old kid rocking out rush all day, Just saying im not insulting Neil like some are making it out to be, Also i dont think Geddy Lee's voice is shot or Neil is too old or any of the real RUSH insults ive heard today, In my opinion they will do another show some day some time Ill leave it at that. Segue Myles
Is it wrong I wish KISS has stopped in 1979? Kind of wrong, Kiss rules, But RUSH has the class to test time. I dont care what anybody says, RUSH should come back with a new album and there should be a harry potter part 8 9 10 Good. Sounds like you ignore the existence of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child! Well done! Me too!

Hell man! They gave over forty years. I got a lot more out of them than I thought I ever would. Your right, I got many years of enlightenment from the guys, I just really want more, Same as you They can always play slower songs like tai shan I can’t tell if your last sentence is a joke or notGood Lord I can't either! Babycat
I've got about as much chance of marrying the Pope than the band getting back to recording again. Forty years is an incredible experience. Mr. JD
Rush prime ended in 85. So yes it’s wrong. CA was great because it was a concept like the past. M2c Huh? They were only 10 years into a 40 year career. They were just getting started! That being said, I thought that the ingrained “creativeness” would prevail and they would want to create new music. While I think that Geddy and Alex still have that drive, i’m not so sure Neil does. He may still be coming up with some lyrics every now and then, but I don’t think he can hear that drum set in the basement calling his name.

The Cat 3
I hate to be so selfish, But i'm really upset with RUSH and Neil for giving up on RUSH, I know they all have other things to do in life. Its been like "clockwork" for years, Every couple of years something new and awesome from RUSH for me to look forward too, Now it seems to really be over and i'm upset to say the least, I wish they would think of the fans and make something new for us all. They know we want that, Btw thanks for letting me join your RUSH Club, I dig it First, welcome to TRF. Second, I don't think it wrong to be disappointed that Rush has retired. That being said, I don't think being upset "with Rush" personally is the best way of putting it. The last show I saw on the R40 Tour I was completely aware that "this is it", and really took in every moment and nuance. It was bittersweet, but I was thankful for the art they shared with the world and for the joy their music has brought my life and the lives of so many others over the years. I congratulate them on their retirement, "wish them well" (pun intended) and hope they are able to enjoy the fruit of their labours. Third, I, myself, cannot wait to retire when I can putter around in the garden, read books, listen to music, hike, bike, take naps, etc., etc.

Won't bring them back but don't let that stop you. i kinda knew they were done as soon as r40 ended. so i made peace faster than most. but in the end. Al and Neil were playing in pain. and trust having CP and having some form of pain everyday. i don't Blame anybody. good for them. Mick

Think of what you do for a living. If, after you retired, someone you did business with or worked for wanted you to come back and work on a project or put in some hours or whatever, would you feel obligated to do so for them? Or would you say, "I appreciate that you have such confidence in me, but I'm sorry, I'm retired now,"? For me, once I retire, I'm done.
