Principled Man
I remember when Gilmore re-recorded Money in 1981, for their "Best Of" album, A Collection Of Great Dance Songs. We thought it was pure blasphemy! You don't redo such a perfect song! :laughing guy:I love that version. Heretic!! thesweetscience
I have never been a big fan of Pink Floyd. In reading this thread I decided to give this record another go. I still hate it. Well then.....No Great Gig in The Sky for YOU!! ;) ;)I think I am okay with that.

Just not you cup of tea?Basically yeah. I liked Animals for some reason. Maybe because the first time I listened to it was the first time I had ever heard any of those songs. I think radio overplay has a lot to do with what I like and what I don't. If it is a radio staple, I am going to hate it. With so much music out there to play, why do radio stations have to run certain songs into the ground? There are a great many bands that I once liked or even loved who I now can't stand because of the radio.

Principled Man
With so much music out there to play, why do radio stations have to run certain songs into the ground? We all know the answer to that question. As the song says, it's the root of all evil today.

There are a great many bands that I once liked or even loved who I now can't stand because of the radio. The radio stations play the staples because they tend to be the band’s best work. Not necessarily what the diehards would pick (e.g., Xanadu vs. Limelight) but great songs that even casual fans enjoy.
Rick N. Backer
Incidentally, I like Tom Sawyer and Limelight more than I like Xanadu. :)

I never hear it unless I'm at a Rush concert or I'm playing all of Moving Pictures. I definitely don't hate it (it's still great) but I've just heard it about a billion times too many. I had to go into Boston for work today. On the train ride in I listened to PeW. On the way back I listened to MP. Every time I listen to them I'm reminded of why I love them. Ditto for Hell's Bells, Welcome to the Jungle, Enter Sandman and You've Got Another Thing Coming. Are those my favorite songs? Not necessarily. But they're certainly among their best. As I've posted many times, I don't have the reflexive dislike for a band's more accessible work that a lot of fans tend to have. Is Tom Sawyer my favorite Rush song? No. Is it in the top 20? I would think so.
toymaker
if you haven't checked out the Classic Albums DVD for Dark Side, it's definitely worth it. Isolated track of part of Clare's vocal, for one thing.
