I'm due to give Pink Floyd another go .. Genesis finally came around for me, so up nect is PF

 

I saw my friend Mike last week, and he's as big a Floyd fan as there is .. He knows me, and I told him that of the ones I know, I like Atom Heart Mother ... He said I should start with Animals ..

I remember when Gilmore re-recorded Money in 1981, for their "Best Of" album, A Collection Of Great Dance Songs.

 

We thought it was pure blasphemy! You don't redo such a perfect song! :laughing guy:

I think radio overplay has a lot to do with what I like and what I don't. If it is a radio staple, I am going to hate it. With so much music out there to play, why do radio stations have to run certain songs into the ground?

 

There are a great many bands that I once liked or even loved who I now can't stand because of the radio.

Tom Sawyer is on my Retired List. I never hear it unless I'm at a Rush concert or I'm playing all of Moving Pictures.

 

I definitely don't hate it (it's still great) but I've just heard it about a billion times too many.

I had to go into Boston for work today. On the train ride in I listened to PeW. On the way back I listened to MP. Every time I listen to them I'm reminded of why I love them.

Interesting. I would say that Rock You Like a Hurricane is a great song of Scorpions'. Ditto for Hell's Bells, Welcome to the Jungle, Enter Sandman and You've Got Another Thing Coming. Are those my favorite songs? Not necessarily. But they're certainly among their best.

 

As I've posted many times, I don't have the reflexive dislike for a band's more accessible work that a lot of fans tend to have. Is Tom Sawyer my favorite Rush song? No. Is it in the top 20? I would think so.

Believe it or not, I heard Rock and Roll Damnation on the radio in Fresno last week. Gotta love the deep cuts.
