For The First Time In My Life I Think Genesis Is Better Than Rush! Steve Hackett! BLEW MY MIND! PS: I'm Not Drunk! "Supper's Ready" Honey!

I just saw one of the greatest prog rock shows in my life. I owe it all to Rod and his review for waking up and grabbing a floor ticket to see Steve Hackett at the UC Theater!

Both sets were off the charts but my GOD! Really?

No spoilers here but man.......

It was a Magical Night! I met so many wonderful friends who I haven't seen in a long time. Progressive Rock still unties old friends together. Just like Rush would do on a worldwide scale too!!

Our tiny venue sold out so we all got a Steve Hackett poster at the end of the gig. EPIC! Very good Fillmore vibe there.

Steve Hackett was battling the flu and still pulled of a show that will be in my memories for the rest of my life!!

So, why the hell is Alex not doing anything? Geddy too?

Forget RUSH. It's over and dead forever.

But as I was talking to JB in that fantasy Rik Alex thread why can't our two guys carry on too???

I mean even Phil Collins kicked off his new tour tonight!

Peter Gabriel still tours and lately has done some Genesis stuff!

So Steve Hackett though steals the show in that department.

Mind Blown.

I have no idea what Mike and Tony are up to but that's life!

Why can't Alex tour North America and even Europe with his own young band.

They could all be no names for all I care.

I mean seriously! Max on vocals in the Hackett band pulled off Peter perfectly. JMO

Why can't Alex get a young unknown vocalist to take over?

If Alex were to tour like I said in a previous post hell I would go.

Kind of funny how most people in that other thread were actually very cool about it.

Usually there are a bunch of jerks on here who get sick of tired ideas and threads and such.

Well?

Imagine one day if Geddy tours with his band and Alex tours with his.

Wouldn't that be good for all of us Rush fans????

Things end. Things begin.

People are born. People die.

Move on.

Another chapter in our prog lives are over.

Hell, I was going to fly to Toronto this weekend to see the last SAGA show. Perhaps even hang out with Rod, but I couldn't pull it off and airfare was too much.

Fuckk it kids.

Enjoy your lives.

Seeing Steve Hackett tonight in a small venue and playing all the old Genesis stuff was beyond refreshing to my eyes and ears and mind.

Just wait.

Mark my words.

Alex and/or Geddy will tour again with new younger players.

Alex and Geddy together again? NEVER.

But think about it.....

We will get the best of both worlds.

"The Musical Box" will play forever.

Even when we are all gone.......................

I told you this was a great show, man!!! Too bad you didn´t get to meet the man, but good on you for making it to the concert! Did he play "When the Heart Rules the Mind"? I could swear he used some "mysterious" help to sing that song...the first song on the set is usually Every Day, from his first solo album after leaving Genesis. Steve is great at coming up with a simple melody on guitar and building solos that go back and forth into that melody - he does that on Every Day and on Firth of Fifth, for example.

Meanwhile, Phil Collins did a show last night for a sold out Maracana Stadium (the same venue where Rush in Rio was recorded). Phil does the whole show sitting on a chair now, but the crowd still loved it.

I know what you mean Earl.

Going to see The Musical Box with Custom55 here in New Jersey tonight.

Been listening to early Genesis in preparation for the show.

It is amazing the quality of work they created.

They most certainly put the E in EPIC!

Steve Hackett's playing is incredible.

Earl, why would you believe an Alex and/or Geddy tour will happen but not a Geddy/Alex tour?

Imho, an Alex tour seems like the least possible as he seems to like his freedom and popping up on various mini projects as he has recently. His own tour would be too much commitment.

The most likely would be a solo Geddy tour as he (at least a few years ago) wanted to keep going.

Totally different band really, i listen to a lot of Genesis when in a classical kind of mood and dont need anything too intense. You're right though, at times Genesis up there and even beyond Rush in their own way. Both bands a huge miss who could still be knocking out good sh*t

It's so funny about our musical connections and vides. Obviously I have made a wonderful intellectual circle of prog friends. My other buddy who I was with last night is good friends with Phil Collins. While at the show last night he was showing me clips of the Phil concert. Amazing.

Yes! Steve did play "When The Heart Rules The Mind." I thought it was done too slow and his voice did seem very clean and clear. But when he talked he sounded like he swallowed a bloated bullfrog. Poor guy. He was surely under the weather and wundering last night! LOL! Poor fella. He was amazing on that fretboard last night. Blew my mind.

His solo on Firth of Fifth should be taped and sent to space for aliens to know there´s also beauty in this world.

Funny to notice that Steve and Phil will play in Rio only a couple of weeks apart...and yet, when it comes to a reunion, they always say that "oh no, I´m busy doing other stuff". Dudes, your "other stuff" does almost the same thing, goes to the same places, and caters to the same markets more or less!

You know I love you buddy! Custom55 too! Rod as well! All East Coasters man! Well, I'm hoping to get my ass back there to see Rod in the spring. I really wish we could all do a Rush Forum Party. Hell let it be back there. I have Jersey blood. All of my relatives live back there.

I will fly back for it.

But anyway it's all pie in the sky. Yes! Hackett just blew my mind last night. I saw him three years ago on the Genesis Revisited Tour. I loved it but for some reason this show was superior!

I saw the Musical Box last year in SF! LOVED IT!!!!! Have a great time my friend! GENESIS RULES!!!

At least Phil, Steve and Peter are still gigging! Steve is still putting out quality albums.

When will Geddy and Alex do something together or apart??????

You all saw the Dan Rather interview! Geddy loves not getting on a plane. He loves being a grandfather.

I think Alex will get a band together and do a North American Tour in smaller venues.

Could you imagine seeing Alex jam at The Fillmore or The Warfield??? The Fox in Oakland? HOLY SHITE! I would die!!

I love you too JB and all of my Japanese friends I have made over the years! When am I flying to Japan knucklehead? LOL!

Well dude, for some reason like I said before, I believe Geddy is loving his time off. He's resting, being a grandfather and not wanting to jump on a plane and tour.

I think Alex is the one who will record a record perhaps with "friends." That is very popular too. So don't be surprised if Geddy will record a few tracks with Alex.

Also don't be shocked if Neil will fly back or cycle back to Toronto and record with Alex for a few songs!

Hopefully I can tell you all, "I told you so!" But who knows! I would embrace anything these guys do.

Hell Steve Hackett is 68! He looks amazing and he cane still shred majestically! Even with a touch of the flu!!!

There is "Hope" for an Alex tour! JMO

Holy Cow Rod! You said it. That solo brought me to tears. Last night woke me up. Steve is beyond beyond and I never gave him a lot of love over the decades. I'm listening to the first five Steve Hackett solo albums tonight, followed by "Seconds Out." Guess I'm glad to be a bachelor! No woman would put up with my in my cozy little prog home. LOL!

SINGLE FOR LIFE! HALF WAY TO DEATH!

Yes! Of course! Last night when I wrote this thing I was flying high on Steve's axe. RUSH will always be my number one. But man I was floored last night!!

I agree! I know Neil is over it and in pain but if his body was in solid shape there is no doubt that RUSH would still be making albums and touring.

I have always been praying for a Genesis Full Reunion! Remember the rumors about a "Lamb" Reunion Tour? Then the last rumor was they were going to make a record. No bueno.

Hell If Genesis got back together to do "The Lamb" at Wembley only for three nights I fly there in a "New York Minute!!"

Signed,

Don Henley

Plan for The Musical Box next year here in New Jersey.

It will be our third year in our new tradition.

They are playing "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" in it's entirety.

We're just a couple of miles outside of NYC, so I'm sure there will be other great music as well.

Holy Sugar Rod!

I just got a text from my buddy Zak. He was there last night! You know that Steve Hackett poster we all got after the show because it was a sellout? ZAK DESIGNED IT!!!!

I am blessed having so many wonderful friends in the music scene. This place included obviously!!!

I may be outlandish and zany in my posting but I'm the real deal!

For all you out there who call me your friend and support me I will always love you guys and gals.

I am blessed Johnny Blaze! Not too cursed yet! ;)

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I love it!

Are they really doing "Lamb?"

You are hilarious with that Friday The 13th reference as you do know I am a horror addict too! LOL!

Ok! That gives me a lot of time to book. I will fly out there only if Rod comes down for the show too! HA!

Believe me, I did not give up on Toronto this weekend. It was just too late, yes Saga fans here it comes.... "Don't Be Late."

I am so bummed that I am missing that final SAGA show. Logistically and financially no bueno.

But really to see "Back In NYC" near NYC! PRICELESS!

I hate being a flake because I am not and I am sorry Rod.

I think Rock and Prog are still ok! I was wrong!!!

I am about to get my Turbonego tickets. That Norway punk band has been on my to see list for years and years!!!

Signed,

ASS COBRA

"Seconds Out" is playing now. Man kills me.

Since we are talking I mean typing about Geddy and Alex touring again maybe what if Phil Collins and Steve Hackett did a tour next year????

I have no idea where Tony and Mike are right now. We all know Peter has his own gigs.

I think it's cool though about Phil's new tour. I asked my buddy who knows Phil very well if Darryl was still on the guitar. My buddy said, "of course he is!"

Now there is an underrated guitar player guys!! Come on! Darryl is AWESOME! Love him! He has a solo album too. I love it!!!

I need a Genesis and a Rush tattoo. Marillion too. Fish Era of course.

Rod!

It's amazing and I totally thank you for the wake up call last week! Because of you I was able to get my ticket before it sold out!

Then BOOM!

All of my old prog buddies can out of the "Closet Chronicles!" LOL! Whoops that's Kansas!

I know I'm corny but at least I make myself laugh!

Last night is up there Rod in my life of concerts. I am very serious and I am well over 800.

YOU ROCK!
