Grace Under Pressure is perhaps my favorite Rush album. It will always remind me of the time that I heard it, then bought it. It was released in April of 84, before I was a Rush fan. I bought it in February of 85, after a huge snow storm, and listened to it to exhaustion.

For me, it completely reflects the mood of the time, at the time. It was a Cold War album, and it reflected that time to perfection.

Signals

Power Windows

Grace Under Pressure

Favorite track is probably Analog Kid, but I could be talked into Subdivisions or Marathon. PoW is nearly perfect, but Signals is just that much closer.

Grace is lackluster production wise, and the songs aren't all great.

Signals is my top 3 albums Rush.

1. Signals

2. P/G

3. Power Windows

Signals and P/G is A for me, PW has Grand Designs which is easily the worst Rush song.

Wait whaaaa????

Maybe I exaggerated on the last part, but it is up there for my least favorite Rush song.

Never heard Between the Lenses

Sounds like a cheesy bootleg title.

“Kid Money” sounds like a cheesy rapper who claims he grew up in the hood when he actually grew up in an affluent suburb.

Signals and PoW are about equal, but I went with Signals.

Grace has really poor song dynamics...every song sounds the same. ok execution, but just creatively lazy.

Analog Kid is the best track of the 3. I don't care that Terry Brown hated it and it caused him to quit.

I give Signals and PoW a B+...just short of A-. Grace is a B-

I’m not a huge fan of Grace. The high points are very high and low points very low. The others are uniformly strong imo.

1. Signals

2. Subdivisions

3. Signals and PoW

this.

And Red Dawn was released 4 months later in August ‘84!

Besides Grace Under Pressure, there is nothing more Cold War than Harry Dean Stanton screaming to his kids, Patrick Swayze & Charlie Sheen, “AVENGE ME BOYS! AVENGE MEEEEE!!!!”

Very strong period for them, though arguably their "golden" era had just passed or was passing.

Despite Signals production, the quality of material is sufficient to clinch this for me, though the other two are certainly worthy.

P/G contains some of Alex's best guitar work.

Start to finish I think Grace the strongest of the three. Merits an A grade, being high energy beginning to end. Signals' production doesn't do much for me, and Power Windows is a bit overwrought.

Best overall track is Subdivisions.

I think they missed a trick with Signals.....the idea was correct, but the execution poor....if it had been a different engineer who understood "wall of sound" production it would have worked very well, as the guitar is heavy and bombastic (even more than MP) but buried too much in the layers of keys....it would have been a monster sound handled correctly.

I agree, Subdivisions is the best overall song.
