Mercury on Love of my life. Just the way he vocalizes and harmonizzes with himself is breathtaking.

Deacon i agree on Millionaire Walz

Taylor...wow he's great on lots. Liar, Keep yourself Alive, I'm in love with My car. the ENTIRE Queen II album.

May. Brighton Rock, Liar, Prophet' song and......my fav.....the astounding Good Company. i mean.......that song.......DAMN.

Mick

It's too easy to forget Love Of My Life being surrounded by so much other incredible material on ANATO, but that's easily one of Mercury's most beautiful vocals, agreed. Taylor in the 70s is so overlooked in favor of Bonzo, Keith, Peart, Collins, and the other regulars. Liar is an incredible example. Also, I know it's one of his simplest parts, but I actually love his work on Hammer To Fall, lol.

And of course May's guitar wizardry never ceases to amaze.

I always found that little drum intro with the echo/delay on it before Loser in the End to be incredibly catchy.

And the drumming on Death on Two Legs is full of good business.

Deacon is like the glue that holds everything together with that big fat tone. Slick bass player, smart musician. Some of his fills in Dragon Attack are pretty sweet.

Freddie always gets me in Under Pressure, the “why can’t we give ourselves one more chance” bit. Every f***in time.

May’s an excellent arranger and has awesome hair. :P

Oh yeah! Loser In The End is one of Roger's most overlooked tunes for sure. That little xylophone in the beat cracks me up, but it's great. And Freddie just slays Under Pressure. Smart is a great way to describe John's playing.

And May's hair...ah yes, May's hair, I love it.

Love Taylor's drum fill in Dead on Time

His work on Jazz is quite interesting. The rhythm he uses in More of That Jazz is pretty tasty.

More Of That Jazz and Fun It have awesome grooves. Easy to see how they got to Another One Bites The Dust and Dragon Attack on the next album.

Ya know it's no secret that i prefer 70's Queen to 80's by a large margin. but i LOVE Hammer to Fall. that's a great song with a Fantastic hook.

Mick

And that bridge is powerful too!

I love the fill's roger does in Death on Two Legs in between Was the Fin on your back part of the deal? and SHARK!!!!

you know the fills i'm talking about?

Mick

I can hear them now! I'm aways so entertained by Freddie right there though that I've never really thought much about those fills, but now that I do they are very good.

yea they're tiny fills but i doubt many drummers would have thought to put fills in those spaces. normally a band would be silent for the whole phrase then come back in on the Chorus.

it's the little details like that though.

Absolutely! Roger wasn't always super flashy, but he always played exciting stuff when you listened for it. Well, at least in the 70s, lol.

If you haven’t already, you should check out his solo album Fun in Space. Good tunes, RT plays all the instruments (with some help on keys?), and is pretty diverse. Some nice drumming too! (Good Times Are Now, My Country, I think he recycles the More Of That Jazz beat in Interlude in Constantinople iirc.)

He also does those super-cool upside down fills in You’re My Best Friend - ie: going up the drums. Who the hell goes up the drums other than Ringo? :P. (Well, Neil Pearl in the middle of a solo, but he goes everywhere!)

I still haven't checked out solo stuff from most of the band! ( a few tunes from Freddie, dang, even some of his singles got a bit zany). Roger makes You're My Best Friend. Well, Roger and John together. Those fills and runs they play together are just so perfect. Fred and Brian are just the icing on that cake.

And i'm gonna be honest Rodger's lead vocal songs on queen albums aside from Car.....kinda always a low point on Queen albums for me. so i kinda purposely always avoided his solo records. he's a great singer but the songs he got to sing in Queen mostly never hit it with me.

Wow, that is the opposite for me! For the most part I always enjoyed his Queen tunes as they generally rocked pretty hard, plus, as you say, he’s a great singer. Funny world!

Never got into any of their other solo projects. Starfleet sounded really lame to my jaded teenaged ears. :D

But I really enjoyed Fun in Space, maybe because it was so diverse - like, say, a good Queen album. ;)

Fun In Space is a great album, full of tunes. The follow-up Strange Frontier has its moments too. Gets patchy after that, but The Cross albums were decent, I loved Mad Bad & Dangerous To Know. Any album with a song called Penetration Guru HAS to be amazing......

I LOVED Starfleet, but I was/am a ridiculous fanboi.

Yeah sorry Mick I'm with vt on this one, lol. I always love hearing Roger's songs on those 70s records. He always brought a totally different perspective to the album that was refreshing to me.

Sitting right now and enjoying Queen II on vinyl record. Such a underrated record! Probably my favorite! I love this early sound that Queen had on their first 2 records. They gave it up to quick in my opinion.

Queen II is my second favorite Queen album. I know Mick loves it too. Honestly I'm not sure how much farther they could've gone in this direction with such great results, but I'm glad we have Queen II after all. Wonderful album! :)

I love Queen II. Queen never gets Credit in the prog field......and they DID dabble in it. I think Queen II is the closet they came to a full prog album. and i love it.

Mick

The March Of The Black Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Prophet's Song, and The Millionaire Waltz are more than enough evidence that Queen made some killer prog in their time.

I thought for a second about Liar. One of my favs for sure but not as prog as the other stuff, a little more just hard rocking. Definitely a prog influence though.

i only qualify it as prog cause it has distinct sections.

It's more a min-suite i guess, lol

I rarely remember my dreams anymore which is odd because I always used to. But this week, already I've had two dreams that I awoke remembering very well.

Last night, believe it or not and don't ask me why (who can explain the subconscious mind?), I had a very vivid dream about Freddie. He and I were very good friends and he was going away and didn't know when he would be back. I was so sad he was leaving me and didn't know what I would do until he came back. I remember in the dream thinking "I could look into his eyes forever."

Then, I watched him walk away and woke up.
