Sorry, but seeing this that you wrote I really started laughing and couldn't stop it for 3 minutes. Kiss is probably the luckiest band in the history of rock music who have made it that big with such a huge following and HYPE. They are real bussinesmen and "magicians". They are just an American BRAND band. And how an American brand band can be underrated, as you said? Explain me, please.
Rick N. Backer
And overrated = Def Lepard No it doesn't. On Through the Night and High N Dry are fantastic. Pyromania is flawless. Hysteria and Adrenalize are both great albums. After that, you can argue their work took a step down. And at least in the 80s, they were an excellent live band.

Kiss Alive might be the greatest live album of all time. Kiss might be the greatest live band of all time. Paul Stanley is a vastly underrated singer...criminally. Love Gun, Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud, I Was Made For Loving You, these songs are classics. Also, no Kiss? No Maiden or countless other more critically appreciated bands who came afterwards and were inspired by the hottest band in the land. At least not the Maiden or whatever other band in the way we've come to know them.

Hype will carry nothing for 45 years Hype will not place my dad's beat up, acid-washed, but still perfectly playable copy of Kiss Alive hiding on a shelf in our basement for me to find some 30-40 years later as one of the half a dozen records my parents didn't decide to sell, and the only one not kept because it was unopened and might have been worth some money. Hype won't explain why he kept that or why he passed it down to me when I started getting into records and music. Hype won't explain his happiness last Christmas when he opened up a Gene Simmons waffle maker from me. No, hype is not what makes Kiss so special.

At times they took chances instead of playing it safe. They work harder than most bands, before and after the hype. And they have lots of good songs. Of course, none of this means a thing if you don't like them for whatever reason.

JohnnyBlaze
I went back and read the original post... For me is simple: The Beattles and U2. And i got my reasons. The Beattles are as plain as a band can get, musically they just suck, is incredible that they make famous composing songs that any amateur guitarist can compous. I respect their ability to keep things simple, but that is the only good thing about them, that and John Lennon. WTF?!!

It's almost illegal He’s talking about the Beattles, not the Beatles. :PThe Beattles sucked ass. Simple songs sung simply and rather limply by the pimply. The Beatles kicked so much musical ass that we’ll never sit the same way again. Deceptively tricky songs and super-smart arrangements. They are the masters of modern popular music, and what they accomplished in their brief time together was nothing short of revolutionary. Now what’s all this about illegal compous? I for one am interested, but only in order to broaden my knowledge-base.
Texas King
I'd say Rush are over-rated by their fans. They are, to us, a great band but we look down on people who dislike them and dismiss their views as "ignorance". I have to agree. Some big Rush fans (I don't claim they are the majority) who think Rush is the best band in the universe and untouchable by any other band OVERRATE Rush! :)For me Rush don't have to be THE BEST BAND OF ALL TIME to love them. They don't have to be even one of the best bands of all time to love them.

They don't have to be even one of the best bands of all time to love them. But again, that's opinion. Rush is my favourite band. I would say they're one of the best bands out there. Someone will end up saying they aren't and then suggest another band, which I would, most likely, disagree with. I just hate the terms. There are no set measurements here. People just like what they like. No one can come up to the biggest Rush fan ever and make a legitimate argument that they're overrated. Just like I couldn't go up to a big Beatles fan and be like, "Yo, they're overrated." They'd just laugh in my face because it's all based on opinion. I just don't like how the terms are thrown out there like there is some council that decides on these things based on predetermined factors. There are no arguments to be made. Sure, The Beatles sold an assload of albums and have a massive following. But someone who doesn't think they're all that automatically deems them overrated BECAUSE of that fact? It's just the dumbest argument ever. At least if someone hates the music then they can just say that, and you can understand where they're coming from. But this? This is just a back and forth of nothing.
HemispheresserehpsimeH
On Tony's point, I'm sure people do dismiss other views about their favourite bands. That doesn't mean that they overrate them. Sometimes, people are just asses. That's pretty much it.
