From the venerable Martin Crane to the evil Judge Helms to voice acting, John Mahoney was one diverse and multi-talented actor. A long and illustrious career on stage and in film made him one of those under-heralded actors who never get enough praise.

The not-so-honorable Judge Helms just didn't get it!

he was great on Cheers

Great memories of that show, it was one of the family favorites from that era .. We actually had a game in which we'd pick a Cheers characters for people who were associated with the shop ..

There was one guy we called "Calvin" who worked in a auto parts store and would sometimes bring parts to the shop .... I remember coming back from some date or something one weekend night and stopping at a convenience store on the way home ... I saw our "Calvin" in the parking lot and he must have been drunk because when he saw me, and drops his pants and moons me in the parking lot - a parking lot that was full of cars and other customers ..

RIP

Loved him as Martin Crane in Frasier. The episode of Cheers he did was good too. I know I've seen him in other stuff but he'll always be the father of Frasier and Niles to me.

I thought he was older than 77, he's been playing "the old guy" in things for over 30 years.

RIP

Yeah, his hair went gray really early for him. So he got those kind of roles at a younger age than others. Frasier started in 1993 which means he was already gray by his early 50s.
