Land Lines

Does anyone still actually use a land line anymore? Yes I know some have them, but does anyone actually get relevant calls from family or friends?

I have a land line because every time I try to ditch it they make it cheaper to keep it in my bundle than get rid of it.

So telemarketers are the only ones who ever call my home number.

The phone company is giving you your landline in the faint hope that you'll buy their DSL service.

I got rid of mine 7-8 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they're not even running twisted pair into new subdivisions anymore.

Kind of, but no. It's the same phone and same phone number, because my parents are elderly and have trouble remembering to call this number; they would never remember to try my cell. We switched to Ooma, which we love. It is a VOIP system. We had to buy the little box for $75.00 but after that it is only local taxes per month; about $6.00/month, free unlimited local and long distance and my parents can still call me! Edited by blueschica

Haven't had one since about 2006. Kept it for a year or so after getting a cell phone but it was pointless since nobody I kept in regular contact with called it. My cell company was different than my home phone one. It made no sense to keep paying two seperate bills either. One friend of mine has only had a cell since 2003. My dad is 71 and even he doesn't have a landline anymore and has had a cell for over a decade now.

I got rid of my landline in 2007. Hadn't used it since late 2006. Got Verizon [can you hear me now? 'cause they had a deal with Ford Motor Company workers. Still do. Retirees get the same benefits. 20% off monthly bill, and 25% off of all accessories.] need a new phone now though I've almost gone a year beyond the 'contract'...no more 'contracts'.

Still have it, still use it. Only use my cell phone for emergencies, and wind up with about 90% of the minutes left after the annual plan is up.

Don't like talking on the phone to begin with, why would I want the capability to do so 24/7?

And you save a lot of unnecessary expense that way.

I still use a land line. It's part of the cable company's internet-TV-phone package so it's cheaper to keep it. Plus I do a lot of work from home so I still get use out of it.

Same here. Since I'm out of town, everything here is Comcast.

There is no cell reception.

Therefore I am land line only.
