So...Best Picture. Dunkirk is the only film I've seen. I certainly think it would be a deserving winner. "Billboards" has gotten a lot of buzz and seems to be the favorite.

Cinematography will be interesting. Blade Runner gets my vote, as the world created in the film was remarkable (This is Roger Deakins’ 14th nomination to date). I'm thinking Mudbound may get the nod, however, as it is the first ever nomination for a female cinematographer.

The only ones I’ve seen from the ENTIRE list are Logan, Last Jedi, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Though I wanted to see Dunkirk, I just never did.

Some on the full list I’ve never even heard of and I’m positive other movies still haven’t made their way into cinemas out here.

Given the political climate, The Post definitely has a shot at winning best picture

Except Spielberg has already won for Schindler and didn’t get nominated while others who haven’t won yet like McDonaugh or Del Toro will probably get a chance. Sometimes politics backfires. *cough*Crash beating Brokeback*cough*

Plus a big newspaper movie (Spotlight) just won Best Picture in 2016

I need to get out more...

I was just thinking the same thing. About MYSELF, I mean.

I used to know just about every film that was nominated, but the past few years I'm lucky if I've seen one of the films.

While I'm PLEASED that John Williams got nominated for The Last Jedi (also got a nod for The Force Awakens) I can honestly say that outside Rey's theme from the last film, I can't remember a single bit of original score from the new Star Wars films. On the other hand, awful as the prequels might have been to many, the music he wrote for them was incredible. And yet those films did not receive a single nomination for score, despite incredible pieces like Duel Of The Fates, Across The Stars, and Battle Of Heroes.

Just as I was watching Phantom Thread yesterday, I thought that the lady who plays Daniel Day-Lewis´ sister deserved a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. And Get Out is great, but best picture? Nah...

I read some people complaining that Logan was nomiated, and Wonder Woman got snubbed, accusing the Academy of mysoginy. Social justice warriors went too far here- just because it´s a movie about a female superhero it should be nominated? Get a grip, people!

Gary Oldman, “Darkest Hour”

I would bet real money on Oldman.

I've heard his performance is A-1.

Going to see Darkest Hour in about a half hour...here in Jackson, Wyoming. A good way to rest up the legs for skiing tomorrow! :ebert:

I’m not afraid to admit WW and movies like Deapool are good but they’re NOT Oscar movies! Comic book fans need to get over it. Wouldn’t have minded Logan for a BP nod though.

Speaking of which, I find it ironic that the BP nods expanded because too many people complained about Dark Knight getting snubbed yet it made room for movies that had no business being nominated like Blind Side ffs. Hope you fanboys are happy Blind Side edged out better movies that year like Moon.
