Take songs from three weak albums to make one good album

I was thinking that another possible thread might be "The ultimate Rush proto-prog metal compilation" - what tracks would you include? You are allowed to take sections of side long tunes like 2112, Necromancer, etc. What's the heaviest album you could compile?

Not a fan of dissecting bands by genre. Metal, prog, rock, whatever. This is the TRUE reason why the PeW 70s/80s nonsense argument persists. Vivisection!

Good is good whatever it is.

By-Tor fits fine on an album with Strangiato and Limelight.

In short, I bet such a thread would do great as TRF generally likes separating this and that into categories.

Sure, but what about those days when you want a) Rush and b) something damned heavy? Forget the genres - what tunes fit together just for sheer holyjeezum heaviness?

Slap on the debut or Vapor Trails!

Rush's last 3 studio albums (VT, S&A, CA) would've been better with at least two or three weaker songs cut off. All of them are too long. For example, Vapor Trails shouldve ended appropriately with Sweet Miracle instead of the dreck that followed it.

Here's the opposite, two, four and three tracks respectively from Counterparts, T4E and Snakes and Arrows to make one really bad album...

Track 1: Speed of Love

Track 2: Eveyrday Glory

Track 3: Virtuality

Track 4: Half the World

Track 5: Color of Right

Track 6: Carve Away the Stone

Track 7: Bravest face

Track 8: Good News First

Track 9: Larger Bowl

I dare you to give that playlist a try!

I actually enjoy Everyday Glory. Its a sad yet hopeful song. Its also, on a more technical note, recorded/mastered noticeably much louder than the other songs on the album. One of my Rush head friends claimed that EG was recorded on analog tape instead of digital like the rest of the songs thus making it jump out of the speakers like it does

Half The World and Carve Away The Stone I like too. Virtuality is a good groove wasted on a dated lyric. The Snakes songs blow, you got that right. I also would've thrown in a few others.

Virtuality's jam is interesting (being the best music overall of the songs I listed) but the balance of the song is excruciatingly dull.

A full album out of Presto, Counterparts, and Snakes and Arrows?? That's a tall order. I'll give you a 28-minute EP instead.

Far Cry

Cold Fire

The Main Monkey Business

Malignant Narcissism

Animate

We Hold On

Oh, looky there. Nothing from Presto.
