GUP Live is WAY better than Exit Stage Left.

Let's see A Show Of Hands... all in favor?

 awesome post dude.

Another one, T4E's only actual problems are a few embarrassingly underwritten melodies and lyrics. Everything else about it deserves the praise that's generally reserved for CP, which is far worse than T4E.

Idk actually how controversial that is but it occurred to me today as I was listening to it. Guitar, bass, and drums wise, the album is excellent.

that a problem i have with later Rush in general honestly/

they almost......ALMOST.....forgot how to write good melodies.

Mick

I have a vague recollection of a thread about the concept of melody. What exactly makes a "good" melody? Why should the intervals of any melody be necessarily more "catchy" or evocative than the intervals of any other melody? I think I'm going to go looking for that thread.

\

it's subjective of course.

i have a hard time remembering a ton of melodies starting at T4E after i've played the albums.

Whether i'm just old i dunno, lol

OK, I'll drop this elephant in the room.

They would have been better with Rutsey.

And his dynamic lyrics? I think we would have gotten "Best I Can" and "Finding My Way" (both of which I really like BTW) in an 80's version and 90's version if they lasted that long! :)

I had no clue this thread would take off so well! Great job Mick!!!

I'm disagreeing with so much of what's being said right now it's hilarious. That comment about CoS vs. 2112, priceless.

Okay okay, here's another:

Hemispheres is significantly worse than Signals, and not even as good as Power Windows.

you want Controversial. that's been me here since post one, lol

It's all cool though.

Power Windows and Signals ARE better than Hemispheres bro.

good call.

Mick

Where is Segue? He'd love this thread!

The original title of Red Barchetta was Red Barracuda, but Heart already wrote a song about a Barracuda and they didn't want to shit on that. Plus, Neil protested about writing a car fantasy song about something American made.

True story. Really. It is.

Portnoy would join, write the next album and produce it himself. It'd have five epics and six ballads, and he'd have a "duet" with Ged on every track, then after a successful tour he'd say it's time to call it quits for the next five years, so that way we'll be even bigger for the next album in six years.

A Farewell To Kings is a Fairly Bad Album. Without Xanadu and CTTH it would be unthinkably bad.

That's crazy. I was going to post pretty much the same thing, but not quite as far as "unthinkably bad".

when you take off the blinding lenses of "Rush bias", a lot of their old stuff sounds.. bad, compared to others of the time.

Rivendell is better than everything on Presto with the possible exception of Show Don't Tell, and everything on Snakes other than Far Cry and 2 of the three instrumentals.

The first album is way better than Caress of Steel.

Anagram (for Mongo) > Jacob's Ladder

I don't really believe that about JL. I adore JL. But CoS really is worse than the debut.

The guys in Rush just aren't all that funny. Probably even less so when they're trying to be. Edited by laughedatbytime
