Here's my Hogue. I tell you, Hogue is producing some simply awesome knives nowadays and I'll put 'em up against a Benchmade any day of the week. The quality and fit & finish is just outstanding.

Edited to provide a better link.

Being a professional survival instructor, I feel compelled to "walk the walk" and also having a touch of OCD can be an excellent tool if you train yourself to channel it in the proper direction as it enables me to "wargame" potential scenarios in my head and the do my utmost to prepare for them. (Side note: preparing beforehand for emergencies is a great way to get yourself some peace of mind. Try it and watch your stress levels will drop.) Therefore I carry on my person:

A good, stout folding knife. Specifically a Hogue EX-01 to which I've tied a para cord lanyard giving me roughly six feet of cordage, and with para cords five inner strands, it totals 30 feet of cordage with which I can rig a shelter, set traps and snares, make a stickbow, make a bowdrill, etc. etc. Cordage is one of your five most vital survival tools. Speaking of, I also wear a para cord bracelet which gives me roughly another fifteen feet of cordage, multiply it by five and I've got another 75 feet! I carry a military-style bandana (100% cotton. That's important.) with which I can rig a sling (the kind you use to hurl rocks), wet and cover my head to keep cool, tie around my ankle and walk through dew-y grass to soak up the water to drink, use as an emergency bandage, etc. Literally 101 uses. I also always carry a multi-tool, which not only give me another knife as it features a good blade, but I also have a lot more tools at my disposal for field repairs. I went on Amazon and bought one of theose ferro-rods that screws into a knurled case which faetures a compass on the butt end. I took it and braided para cord around it and stitched it to my multi-tool sheath, thus making the tool and ferro rod together a mini-survival kit. Also in the sheath with the multi-tool is a flat knife sharpener. I carry also chapstick, Scope breath spray (which contains alcohol and will help you get a fire going), a bic lighter, and a small pen knife for small jobs (you can do a big job with a small knife but you can't do a small job with a big knife!) The pen knife is a Christy knife, and I highly recommend you go to their website and order you one because they're just awesome and they're also not your typical knife (go to their site & you'll see what I mean.) In my off-hand pants pocket I carry a tactial flashlight which runs at 800 lumens and has two seperate switches, one for steady on and another for strobe, which is extremely useful for disabling an attacker. In some cases, it's been known to make people throw up, so if he's puking he for sure ain't gonna be thinking about hurting you anymore!

I carry a few other things but that's enough for now. Any questions, fire away!

Sounds like you’re ready for anything if it’s summertime or if you live in a consistently warm climate.

I simply happen to be a knife collector who appreciates a quality blade. I do not sexually fetishize them and personally find such an idea revolting.

Edited to add: Please accept my sincere apologies if you were joking, I've been accused of sexually fetishizing weapons too many times on this board before and knee-jerked, it just bugs the crap out of me when folks do that.

Yes, I live in SC and very cold weather is a rarity hereabouts. Are there items you'd personally recommend for colder climates? I'd be very appreciative to hear from you on this since with this thread I am (in all honesty) basically picking y'all's brains! :D

In my truck I have a full-on survival kit/bug-out bag stashed under the back seat along with two sleeping bags good for temps down to about 30 degrees. I also have a .22 LR Henry survival rifle with 500 rounds of ammo, a trauma kit, 2 rain suits, 2 ponchos, an entrenching tool, and 5 MREs in a compartment behind the back seat. And one of those deluxe break-down kits.

I WAS joking, because I own 4 handguns, two rifles and get a lot of that same kind of teasing myself. of course there ARE people who are weird like that, but I hope to NEVER MEET THEM! :smash: I can appreciate the collecting of almost anything, for asthetics and such.

Brother, I feel like a complete and utter heel. Once again, I humbly apologize. Tell you what, anyone ever gives you crap about weapons ever again, shoot me a message and we'll school 'em together! I've got your 6!

I have a benchmade model 32 mini-morpho balisong. Being a little shorter, it's legal to carry here. I like flipping it as it fits well in my somewhat small trumpish hands. :P It seriously makes a terrific EDC knife.

Otherwise I carry a wallet, cell phone, insulin pen, and blood glucose meter.

No pun intended? I work on a federal installation where they don't legally allow employees or visitors to carry knives or guns but I carry a Spyderco Chaparral (it's thin and only has a 2 13/16 inch blade) anyway. I also have a small 4Sevens light that has a couple of lumen options up to 1020. In the car, I have 2 flashlights, also from 4Sevens, 1 is small and if I need to find something under a seat or look under the hood or in the trunk, and the other is a 2000 lumen monster for defensive purposes.

For CC purposes, I have a Taurus Millennium G2 in .40 S&W. I'd like to sell that and get a Smith&Wesson M&P Shield in .45 ACP, but it's such a pita to legally sell a gun these days.

Have you seen where some folks have had trouble with Milleniums going when they're shaken or jarred? There was a big hue and a cry about it some three or four years ago.

P.S. No, no pun intended, I always say that.

Also, thanks for the info on 4Seven flashlights, I'd never even heard of them but will be looking into them. I EDC a Klarus, what I like about it is that it features two seperate switches, on for steady-on and one for strobe. I also EDC a smaller 1 AA Fenix so I don't have to worry about burning up the 123 batteries my Klarus uses as I have that one strictly for tactical/defesive use so the Fenix is for everyday tasks and is also bright enough to sub as a tac light should anything happen to the Klarus.

Yeah, I’d last about two minutes in the wild.

:D well, just becaue my EDC is mostly survival-related doesn't mean I expect everyone else to do the same. In fact, you carry survival gear and don't even realize it. Take your phone. If you're ever stranded and your phone goes dead you'd probably think it would be useless. The screen is highly reflective and could be used to signal a pasing plane, boat, or vehicle. Carefully smash it with a rock and remove the battery and then pierce the battery with a knife. In about five seconds it will combust and burn hot enough and long enough to gate a fire going. Also, remove the circuit board and shape and sharpen it on a rock and you've got a spear or arrowhead. Take your wallet and cut the biggest diamond-shaped pisece you can from the outer part. Use the wire from your ear pods and you can rig a sling (the rock-throwing kind) for hunting small game. There are also lots of survival manuals apps that are completely free. Download one or two and read a little every now and then when you're bored.
