What did you like or dislike about it?

I seriously considered walking out during the "I'm holding for General Hux" skit. I'm glad I didn't, but damn, that was just terrible.

I'm not happy at all with the current trend of film makers forcing contemporary America slang and vulgarities into their SciFi/Fantasy films. The General Hux scene wasn't too bad, IMO, but they could have worded it differently. It's supposed to be long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, but we get people talking exactly like US.

Guardians of The Galaxy comes immediately to mind. To me, it's very irritating to put up with the American vulgarities spewed by beings who have never even been to Earth much less the USA. I like Thor much better when he's talking like THOR, and not like one of the guys down in NYC.

The Thor-speak in Ragnarok was the director’s bs idea to have him strongly influenced by modern American language. So, even though Thor’s supposed to be over a thousand years old he’s speaking and joking as he did in Thor 3 after just a few years of hanging out with Jane Foster and Tony Stark?! Dumb.

Guardians 2 and Thor Rag were big let downs for me. They certainly were not made by filmmakers who know or respect the characters.

Getting back to Last Jedi, that General Hux phone scene was cringeworthy.

They might as well have had Domino's deliver a prank call pizza as a distraction.

I can picture Mary Poppins Leia flying through space with a pizza box in hand...

That would’ve been an improvement!

The more I think about it, the more unbalanced LJ seems. We’ve got the Hux prank call and Leia Poppins rubbish in the same movie as the cool Dern sacrifice scene and the well done Yoda cameo. Weird.

TLJ is a mess indeed there is a very good film in there. but Rian was to busy doing to much and it got way to convoluted.

Mick

Man is there really? A decent Star Wars popcorn flick? Maybe. But a very good film? I do not see the frame upon which to build a good movie out of this mess.

What made Star Wars good was that it was the archetypical hero’s journey, which is usually always a fun ride, but set against an interesting backdrop of gadgetry, droids and pew pew “lazor” beams. What they have totally abandoned is the hero journey of Rey and gone all in and tried to use cuteness, saccharine emotional ploys and technical wizbangery to make a story...it doesn’t work. At all.

One is an accident, two is a trend. My expectations for the third movie are not high.

i loved everything with Luke Rey and Kylo. (Expect luke's ending) As far as i'm concerned this film could have scrapped the boring resistance stuff and built upon those 3. and......GIVEN LUKE A BETTER STORY ARCH!!! i mean damn.

and i don't care....I LOVED and still love TFA.

Currently watching, for the first time, the Blu-ray reworked version of Return Of The Jedi.

Oh my gawd.....what utter stupidity. The opening scene in Jabba’s chamber....Lucas turned it into total shit.

I barely survived watching this. I've now seen all the "altered" episodes on Blu-ray, and I wish that I could forget all of it.

After seeing what Lucas did to the original trilogy, I have lowered my opinion of him even more. What he did to Return of The Jedi makes JarJar Binks look like a stroke of genius. Vader yelling Nooooooooooooo!!! when killing Palpatine was utterly fake and out of place. Just by hearing it, you can tell that it was added onto the original voice track, and very shoddily.

No film maker should get so rich off of turning a potential "Greatest Film Series Of All Time" into a pathetic joke.

I have the original Episodes IV and VI on DVD. Episode V must have gotten lost or broken years ago.

It was the scene in Jabba's chamber that sent me over the edge. Turning it into a retarded 2-minute cartoon video - specifically marketed to kids - was an obscenity. I could have handled all the other alterations.

I just hope that, before I die, the film studios will re-release the original theatrical versions. I'm not optimistic.

You don't find CGI creatures burping and farting funny . . . ?

I get what you're putting down.

One of the poorest-rendered and completely pointless scenes was that stupid jawa falling off that stupid giant horse thing in the Mos Eisley spaceport.

It's all an ingenious plan. Where are the unedited originals on Bluray? Someday they will be released, and probably in conjunction with a run in the movie theatre. Just think about that! The original trilogy gets to be released in the theatres three times instead of once. $$$$$$$$$$$

It will happen.

On December 14, 2017, the Walt Disney Company announced its pending acquisition of 21st Century Fox, including the film studio and all distribution rights for A New Hope.

If enough fans demand it, they will re-release the original films. It will happen.

Yeah, I forgot about the Disney/Fox deal. I think you’ll probably be right about the re-releases.

Hope so. And as for any features, it'd be nice if they just dug up the old timers who were building the models and designing the rigs to film the SFX. I don't really give a crap anymore about "rendering" realistic looking skin and all that CGI junk.

Oh, I totally agree. Disney has been doing it for decades with their animated features. They put them in the Disney "vault" until such time as the demand grows and then they capitalize on it. Right now the unedited originals are in the Disney "vault" until the time is right to open it.

I agree those are are nice looking. The enhanced explosion of Alderaan is cool too.

But all the additional creatures added to Mos Eisley is distracting. The added scene with Jabba and Han has to go. And the end of Jedi when the replaced older ghost Anakin with Hayden Christensen was stupid.

Yes, the movies now appear to be showcasing the CGI creatures. And I couldn't agree more about the meeting with Jabba. It doesn't add to the story at all and looks sort of fake; especially when Han steps on Jabba's tail.

And the end of Jedi when the replaced older ghost Anakin with Hayden Christensen was stupid.

Lucas changed that scene and the Vader-Palpatine scene in The Empire Strikes Back for an obscenely bad reason:

He assumed that audiences (children in particular) were unable to follow along and discern between the two different personas of the Emperor and the two different personas of Vader. He dumbed down the entire series.

The revelation of Vader's true name of Anakin was an integral part of Return of The Jedi. Lucas destroyed that when he brought Ian McDiarmid back in Empire.

I can highly recommend the despecialized versions - if you can get hold of them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGrXO2RDzLg

How DO you get them?

https://docs.google....d23bqb5ryD4/pub

It's not quick and it's not easy, but it's worth it.

Thanks - that's helpful.

I'd rank this like this now

Empire

Sith

TFA

A new hope

TLJ

Return

R1

Phantom

Clones

Mick

Rogue

A New Hope

Empire Strikes Back

Return Of The Jedi

Force Awakens

Last Jedi

Revenge

Menace

Attack Of The Clowns

I always tend to poo-poo the Return of the Jedi, but it's that damned awesome throne room scene and final space battle that makes up for the Jabba and ewok bullshit. Still I think I like the recent movies more. Disney's movies are nailing spaceship stuff, and I think the acting is better.

Toymaker!

YES!

I totally get it!!! I mean I am almost 50 fuckking years young next month. I have seen every Star Wars film in the theater.

The Ewoks killed me. Horrible. Like the Porgs. I know I get it. Hated it. "Your'e a jittery little thing." Yes, there is cheese in every Star Wars film.

I can live with the Jabba scenes.

But it is noted that Lucas couldn't afford to build a Wookie Planet so he had to budget in the lame ass Ewoks.

If you notice my list, I am very consistent with the time variable.

Obviously the prequels never set well with me.

I think it all depends on your birthdate.

I was 9 when I saw A New Hope. It blew my mind.

I saw Rogue One (which I though I was going to hate) one day before Carrie passed.

When I saw the CGI Leia at the end I wept.

Then she died a day later.

Just sad.

I normally never stay for the credits but I had to after The Last Jedi.

Of course, "To our princess..... Carrie Fisher."

Hence I wept again.

She'll always be our Princess.

The editions to Empire on the DVD version were good. Most of the others in the other films were way out of place.

I particularly like the additions to Cloud City. The windows with ships passing by and sunshine streaming in were a very nice touch.
