Permanent Waves is an 80s album. You wouldn't call a movie that was recorded in 1979 and released in early 1980 a 70s movie. Why would it be any different for an album?

Well I might. If everything about the movie radiated 70s, and the whole thing was written, filmed, and edited in the 70s, and it had music that was made in the 70s.

70s album.

1. Natural Science

The rest, in no particular order:

Prime Mover

Limelight

Freewill

The Analog Kid

The Enemy Within

Kid Gloves

Territories

Tom Sawyer

The Spirit of Radio

Mix and match from several others on any given day.

Counting PeW, a '70s AOR album, partly because it was released in 1980, but mostly because without it all my songs would come from only two albums (the ones produced by Terry)...

1. Red Barchetta

2. Jacob's Ladder

3. The Analog Kid

4. Limelight

5. The Spirit of Radio

6. Vital Signs

7. Different Strings

8. Natural Science

9. New World Man

10. The Camera Eye

There are dozens of albums every decade recorded in a '9' year and released in a '0' year.

For consistency, I have to either research every album ending in a zero for the recording information before ascribing it to a decade, or just go by the stamp on the album.

So while PW may well be a 70's album in spirit, I keep it in the 80's for the above reason.

Without Permanent Waves, I'm not sure I'd be able to list 10

I can't like almost any of these lists because they all have songs that don't belong on 80s lists...

sad.

I don't want to argue, but I think musically Permanent Waves is the 80's album! And if it has been released on November 20, 1979 in my book it would be the 80's album. That album doesn't sound like the 70's rock at all and it represents a big shift in musical style of a band.

I agree with ya Texas, it's an 80's album through n through. Musically n lyrically in my opinion.

You don't want to argue, so you start a poll and a new thread about it...sure.
