You mean side one of Hems versus side one of CTTE?

CTTE, easily.

Hemispheres is Rush's greatest prog song. But no Rush song will ever eclipse Close to the Edge.

That.

Plus, the "I have memory and awareness" section of Hemispheres is kinda clunky-sounding to me, and it pales in comparison to CTTE's "I get up, I get down."

I have a lot of great memories listening to CTTE so it's an easy vote for me.

It's a masterpiece to my ears.

I was at the YES show in 2004 at MSG where the audience would not let the band finish And You and I. I shed a tear when this happened.

You'll get no argument from me in saying Close To The Edge is the greatest song - and album - of all time .. I love it, and YES is one of the few bands where I can say that I really love each member ..

But there is something special about Hemispheres, and I feel more connected to the three nerds who, a mere 4 years earlier were basically a bar band playing high schools .. There's a untouchable fire in that Rush has, and Hemispheres is the peak ..

Hemispheres wins here

This exactly.

Hemeisphere's is one of my very favourite Rush songs...but Close to the Edge is closer to the edge ;)

Cygnus, and it's not close.

Close to the Edge doesn't even make my list of top-10 Yes songs. I've always found it a bit wonky, rambling and amelodic. It's got some great moments, but I've never understood the love it gets. I'd take just about anything from Fragile or The Yes Album over CTTE.

Hemispheres, it's quite a bit more metal.

:haz: :haz: :haz:

OK, but Close to the Edge is quite a bit more classical music.

Yeah but I think his point is that he prefers Hems because he finds it more metal.

What's wrong with abbreviating song titles? People do it all the time around here.

That's fine. I tend to abbreviate Hemispheres when I'm typing just because we all know what song is being referred to, but I'll try to type out the full name if I'm talking to you. :)

Generally Rush and Yes are quite different when it comes to their influence. Yes is definitely much influenced by classical music, while Rush barely (Xanadu is the only example).

What about the intro to A Farewell to Kings? And Madrigal?
