I just read a rumor of Danny Salazar and Jason Kipnis for Happ. What would the Cubs do with Kipnis?

I can't believe this is serious and hope it's not!

Yeah, not keen on trading Happ. Schwarber and Russell make great trade bait during the middle of the season if we just need one final push to October but the Happ Hype has only just begun.

I know I'm probably guilty of overrating Theo's high picks like Happ, but I love his plate discipline and versatility, and I'm always leery that a pitching acquisition with electric stuff is going to injure himself and be worth nothing about halfway through the season.

Happ had a fantastic call-up year, there's no doubt, it's hard to overrate him. He fits in perfectly defensively cause he can play CF and platoon 2B with Zobrist, and Zobrist can have RF when Heyward doesn't play.

If any of the Cubs callups since 2015 when they got good are overrated, it's Addison Russell. He's got good defense but his bat just hasn't really worked out overall. If we have to trade anybody I'd prefer Russell since we can just stick Baez at shortstop and call it good.

Angels trade for Kinsler. They look to be all in. But will Ohtani be on the DL to start the season?

The Tigers are trading second baseman Ian Kinsler to the Angels, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Kinsler, 35, is heading into his 13th season in MLB. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Rangers and the last four in Detroit. He is a four-time All-Star and won a Gold Glove in 2016.

Last season, Kinsler appeared in 139 games and had a slash of .237/.313/.412 while hitting 22 home runs.

CUrrently, MLB.com lists Kaleb Cowart as the Angels' starting second baseman. In 2017, Cowart appeared in 50 games for Los Angeles and hit for a slash of .225/.313/.382.

There has been no report about what the Tigers will receive from Los Angeles.

Kinsler would be a good pickup for them.

Though I'm just seeing everything that happened to the Diamondbacks in 2016 where they went all in for Greinke and Miller and completely wrecked their farm system for the next 3-4 years and ending up with a losing season. It's a miracle they were able to even make the wild card this last year.

Ozuna goes to the Cardinals

f**k

The Cards had to give up Alcantara (who's got great stuff but needs a ton of polish), Sierra (who's fast but looked overmatched at the plate last year, the next Billy Hamilton?) and that's about it. Not happy about this one.

I'm happy for Ozuna, not happy that we gotta play him 19 times out of the year

In sadder news, there's talks between the Cardinals and the A's for trading Stephen Piscotty. Matheny said the org's partly trying to trade him to help him out and get him back to the Bay Area. His mom was diagnosed with ALS :(

I heard about that last year. That was heartbreaking.

Classy move by the Cardinals... When you hear stuff like that it's hard to hate them... Hope they can make it happen.

Just read that the Cubs have signed sidearm Steve Cishek, last seen wild pitching the Cubs to a win for the Marlins in the Lester bunt game. Edited by laughedatbytime

Angels continue the fun, Zach Cozart gets 3 years, 38M

Rondon also got picked up by the Astros.

Re Cozart...Not sure if that is a good signing. If his performance of last year is sustainable it is, but he's moving to a much more difficult run environment, and last year's 4.9 WAR is the first time he's been more than a 2 win player.

Matt Kemp is a Dodger again. Traded for Adrian Gonzales.

Did the Braves also throw in Terry Pendleton to get Ron Cey?

Free baseball is usually a term associated with a game that lasts extra innings. The Oakland Athletics are taking it a step further in 2018 - offering a regularly scheduled game that's free for all fans.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of their first game at the Coliseum, the A's will charge no admission to their April 17 game against the Chicago White Sox.

With the Raiders and Warriors both moving from Oakland by the end of the decade, the A's have been stepping up their fan-friendly initiatives and building upon a new brand - "Rooted in Oakland."

The free game - on a Tuesday evening - is certainly a step in that direction, generating goodwill among a jaded fan populace and, possibly, ingratiating themselves further to local officials as they seek a new ballpark in Oakland.

I thought this was a great fan friendly move until I saw who the opposition was, then I realized they were just giving away something nobody wanted.

Kerry Wood and Carlos Zambrano are on the HOF ballot this year. Neither of them will get in, though Wood did throw the best pitched 9 inning game of all time according to Bill James Game Scores, and having watched it, it was even better than that. The only reason it wasnt a no hitter is that one of the 8 balls hit in fair territory was contacted so weekly it was an infield hit. His ball had so much movement that day it looked like a wiffleball or something out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

Longoria traded to the Giants...Christian Arroyo (who looked overmatched against the Cubs last year), Denard Span, and two minor leaguers part of package to Rays

Longo's OBP last year, at age 32, was .737.

In a state of shock the Tampa Bay Rays traded our storied 3rd baseman Evan Longoria to the Giants.

On another note the MLB should not only allow but encourage more infield blitz packages to erase the stigma that watching MLB baseball is like watching paint dry or as a poetic duck I know said "like watching grass grow" ...

Actually posted 12/20/2017 but was posted in the NFL thread
