Sheer Heart Attack.

Easily one of Queen's best albums, right? And yet I feel like it gets taken for granted. Let's just take a minute and appreciate how incredible this album is. From the opening carnival sounds of Brighton Rock, to the five snaps that kickoff the sly, playful, strut of Killer Queen, to Roger's infamous purple shoes in Tenement Funster, to the second most scathing lyrics Fred ever wrote in Flick Of The Wrist, right on into the achingly gorgeous minute-and-half roller-coaster ride of Lily Of The Valley, and then of course there's THAT riff in the legendary intro to Now I'm Here, then Roger's piercing shriek that begins the madness of In The Lap Of The Gods, followed by the thrashiest, most thunderous high speed rock n roll you could come by in 1974 courtesy of Stone Cold Crazy, which of course leads into the most mellow lullabye in Queen's cannon that is Dear Friends, picked back up my John's first songwriting credit on the peppy and infectious Misfire, brought to a grinding halt by the dystopian melancholy and police siren guitars of She Makes Me (Stormtrooper In Stilletos), and finally to the climactic explosion to finish off the closing bittersweet singalong of In The Lap Of The Gods... Revisited...

This album is truly masterful, even if it's not quite their best. ;)

:goodone:

"Dystopian melancholy" - This should get you a job with UCR!

My 2nd fave Queen album, and the 2nd one I bought. (5 or 6$ at Zellers 1981)

Brighton Rock blew my mind, as did side 2 - including the dystopian melancholy of SMM. :P

Great drum sounds.

They'd be calling me pretentious before I submitted an application, lol, but thank you.

They're obviously starving for content; and it wasn't that pretentious - I've read worse on UCR, just sayin'! :P

I'm going to listen to it today. It was when I first heard Brighton Rock that I thought to myself "Who is playing that guitar???"

Sitting here and listening to the new 40th anniversary edition of News Of The World vinyl record, which is a 2017 AAA cut! And it sounds amazing! So happy I bought this box set! The best box set I have ever bought! (except for maybe Queen - Live At The Rainbow ´74) Edited by YYZumbi

So many good songs from this band. As I have begun to listen to more and more rock, I am amazed at Queens catlog and the brilliance and courage that Freddie Mercury had

What all have you heard? I almost guarantee you've only hit the tip of the iceberg with this band. :)

I went to a performance of Champions On Ice and one of the skaters used I Was Born To Love You. I found out who the singer was, and later read about that song and how Queen recorded their version after Freddie passed. I love that song, and I am now listening to Queen much more. What is your favorite?

That's a great (if unusual) place to start! I'm very cliche, my favorite song is Bohemian Rhapsody, and my favorite album is A Night At The Opera, however as the forum's resident "Queenmaster," I can tell you a plethora about all of their albums, the good, the great, and the legendary (and Coming Soon).

If you took a liking to I Was Born To Love You, it bears strong musical similarities to Don't Stop Me Now (which you probably already know), and it's sentimentality is akin to Love Of My Life, You Take My Breath Away, and, oh, so many others. Freddie wrote the greatest romance and love songs.

Trying to argue that a circle is not round is the same as arguing that Sheer Heart Attack and Hot Space are not Queen's best albums. It is a fact. ReRushed has spoken.

Stevie Wonder could do it, :P https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Square_Circle

It is difficult to argue though, lol. I always appreciate enthusiasm for Queen's most unfairly hated record.

EP, right on ... I Was Born To Love You and Don't Stop Me Now are cut from the same cloth - I can barely get thru the first 30 seconds of either without feeling tears well up in my eyes ..

Freddie was one of a kind

Princess, if you haven't already, listen to Teo Torriatte ... it was written by the bassist John Deacon, but it is another song that Freddie dishes out with the emotion and flair that only he can .

I could not wait, so I pre-ordered it the first day it was possible! Since I am the true "Queenmaster"! (If people knew me in real life here, they would realize that...)

Actually, Two Torriate was one of Brian's compositions, but Freddie sells it of course.

You And I IS another great song. Criminally overlooked. Deacy was always Queen's secret weapon. And those backup vocals, Queen are often called theatrical but these sound like they're taken straight off of broadway  in the best way possible of course. ADATR has never been an absolute favorite Queen album for me (overall it's a little too sentimental and isn't as playful as ANATO or SHA, or NOTW would be a year later), but there's no denying the brilliance of the songwriting and performing (and production!) across its ten tracks. Never a dull moment.

And thanks! :D
