The Loop, 97.9 (wlup.com) in Chicago is having a Farewell to Kings hour long special Saturday Night. 10:00 cst.

Oooh, thanks! It's a little late eastern time but I'm going to try to catch it. I think I can get that on the Tune In app thing on my phone.

Thanks. This will be the perfect ending to what I have declared to be "A Farewell To Kings Day."

Decided listening to vinyl would be too time consuming, but I'm listening to a bunch of Kings CDs in order of release.

Original CD

Remaster from 1997

Sector release

Deluxe Edition

Third Different Stages disc

Deluxe Edition full Hammersmith show

Loop All Access show.

Interesting to see if it's new interviews or recycled old ones.

Sooo disappointed to turn it on at 10:50 eastern though and find it in progress! Not rockettom's fault- WLUP had 10:00 on their website all day. . . I assumed that meant local time so 11:00 here. . .maybe should pay more attention but I'm watching Wisconsin- Ohio State- too much multitasking! Edited by blueschica

It must have started early. Only caught about 8 or 9 minutes of it before it went into PSA hell. Kept refreshing and it didn't do any good.

The part I heard was mostly music from the Hammersmith with a brief interview snippet.which sounded recycled. I'll have to dig out my Different Stages shows to see if it came from there. (The Geddy and Alex quotes.) Heard some Neil too, but that obviously wasn't taken from that period and was likely before that. Old interview clips with music I suspect.

I hope someone recorded it. The station is owned by Cumulus so I don't know if it was syndicated to other stations in their group or was just a one-off.

This isn't that, but Redbeard is apparently up to his old tricks again (recycling canned old quotes.)

This 40th anniversary Kings "special" is the dictionary definition of mailing it in. Not entirely sure there's a fresh quote in there and most of it has nothing to do with the A Farewell To Kings album itself.

Wasn't around then, but I'm not exactly convinced that Closer To The Heart was this legendary song in 1977 that he seems to think it is either.

New fans might get something out of it.

I was wondering if the Redbeard show was worth listening to. Thanks for the heads up!

You've heard it all before. I think the most recent quote was Geddy talking about vinyl, but I'm not sure that's entirely new, but it could be.
