According to results of this poll it seems that post-Power Windows Rush discography is pretty polarising on this board.

I think they really went downhill after PoW. Counterparts and Clockwork Angels are only two above-average records.

What it absolutely shows is that from the current 85 voters, 31 (that’s 36%) voted the debut among their bottom three, 26 (or 31%) chose Snakes, and 25 (29%) chose Bones. These are the bottom three. The percentages shown in the poll itself are deceptive.

Presto is easily the worst. The only one I think is really putrid, and objectively bad, not just in my opinion.

:eh:

You may not like it, but many do...love it, in fact.

And I voted for two of those three. Guess I am right in with the overall consensus.

Count me in as a Presto fan! I prefer it to most Rush albums. 2112, Hems and MP to count three lol.

Then again...I am finding coming back to Rush that I enjoy the non "classics" a hell lot more than I did before...and the classics...I enjoy them, but I would rather listen to HYF, RTB, Presto and GUP to any other Rush albums at this point.

And blow me down, Snakes And Arrows is a real gem to me! It is overlong and the pace is too...samey but I really love the lyrics and I LOVE the acoustic elements.

But that is the beauty of Rush. They didn't maintain their status for so long releasing universally derided albums.

Rush

Caress Of Steel

Hemispheres

Yeah sorry my doods but this is my list, I like these albums but not so much. I love 80's Rush but imma not huge on 70s or 2000's Rush at all. I pretty much only listen to there 80's/90's stuff and some songs from 70s/2000's.

So would this poll seemingly indicate that the general Rush fan finds 2112 - Power Windows to be their best period? A good 10 year run.

I am one who also includes the brilliant Hold Your Fire in the golden period.

Now I love Caress Of Steel but its not as high up as it used to be. And Hems is a good call. Me and you have that one in common!

That's because you're not really a heavy metal fan. :haz:

Well, the percentages in the poll brackets just show the distribution of the 100%. The debut album, for example, currently shows 12.5%. But clearly, 33 votes (what it now shows) isn’t 12.5% of 89 voters (the number who’ve voted so far). (Now), 33 out of 89 TRFers (37%) are saying the debut is in their bottom three. That’s a lot imho and much more telling than the useless 12.5% that we see displayed.

Rush

Presto

Roll The Bones

The debut just doesn't sound like Rush to me. It has rocking songs but it's incredibly derivative and it just doesn't have lot going for me.

Presto and RTB are the true Rush clunkers. That's not how you recover from Tai Shan, boys.

I think there's meds for that. You might want to nip that in the bud before it gets worse, and you find yourself listening to Kajagoogoo ;) .

I think Hold Your Fire is a much more Kajagoogoo RUSH album than Presto. Presto's thin and quiet, production-wise, but I like the stripped down sound better than the wall-of-Casio approach they had on HYF.

My shock moment was when they released Ghost of a Chance as a single. I remember thinking imagine if that was your introduction to Rush!

The reality is that Roll the Bones was one of their most successful albums in terms of sales and radio play, and it brought in a lot of next generation fans. Lovers of the prog era might be surprised by that, but it's true.

1) Hold Your Fire

2) Vapor Trails

3) Counterparts/Clockwork Angels (tie)

W/ the caveat of each has a couple of good songs that I like, perhaps even love and are in my top 10, but overall I just don't care for the album.

Keepers though...

1) Turn the Page, Time Stand Still (sort of ...I don't care for Aimee Mann here)

2) One Little Victory, Earthshine (-ish)

3) Nobody's Hero, Animate/The Anarchist & The Garden

Test for Echo - I think this is the least inspired they've ever sounded. The songs might not be as bad as some on Roll the Bones, but at least I can remember how bad Face Up is.

Roll the Bones - I like a few songs somewhat, but this is the only album where I straight up dislike almost everything.

Presto - I know it has a lot of fans here and I get it...let's just say it's not for me. Way too consistently wimpy and nothing much that I really love about Rush in the songs. It's like watching Clint Eastwood cry or something. To end on a positive note, I will say that I like Chain Lightning.

Three albums in a row bummed me out to the freakin' max. Hold Your Fire, Presto, Roll the Bones. Each started out so promising, but then turned into wispy, tinkle-chimey pop.

Why are some people referring to Counterparts as a "grunge" experiment. Apart from Stick It Out, which I will grant has that lowtuned grungy riff, what else on that album could possibly compare to yer Nirvana/Soundgarden sound?

I don't relate Counterparts to grunge, but that album has a lot of the 90's alternative rock elements.
