Agree with the Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun comparisons. Probably why I'm enjoying it so much, as the latter of those two is my favourite PT album.

To me, only A Door Marked Summer sounds like old PT.

The album is a tremendous direction towards more concise songs. I will preface this by saying Hand Cannot Erase is easily my favorite album from his solo career and a top 3 now in all of his career including Porcupine Tree material. With To The Bone Steven is maturing even more as a song writer and looking to write great pop rock songs with his signature style and flair.

I love the direction of this album and it is a nice departure from his last two monster records.

Each listen I love it more and more and more. So many great sublime moments, and just when you think he is going to go off on a musical soundscape tangent....the song ends leaving you wanting more.

Maturity.

It is definitely his most pop/mainstream release. Maybe he wants to cash in like Genesis did. Simplifying tends to bring in more listeners. Maybe he can do a duet with Beyoncé or Taylor Swift.

Stop and imagine that for a moment. It could be awesome. :P

This album is the most metal album I've heard this year! :haz:

That was sarcasmic.

Do you not like the album then Gomps?

It is not metal. It is virtually pop though. I like some material, not all.

In all fairness, I have only listened twice.

Well you probably need a few more listens than that. It's been out for about 3 or 4 months, been busy?

It was a slow burn for me too, but not particularly compelling. After the month following release I've probably only listened to it a few more times. HCE is much better, Raven for that matter as well. I've even listened to Insurgents a few times recently and realize how many sleeper tracks/deep cuts there on that for me now. IMO only Grace languishes behind TTB in his catalog.

I like GFD a lot myself. It's a BEAST of an album!

Yes. Listening to other music that moves me more...like PT. :musicnote: :D

He's never going to reform that band. Ever. It's in the past.

I think Wilson thought Gavin was getting a little bit too much attention so he sent him on his way.

Well, he joined King Crimson for an anniversary tour in 2008 and then permanently in 2013 so we should say that it was Robert Fripp who took Gavin from the SW camp.

They already had a drummer too and he's been in the band for 23 years!
