Arguably is good because I'd put Klaus Meine ahead of, at least, Bruce Dickinson here

yes. Dickinson can take some serious adjusting to the uninitiated, Klaus is just riveting.

Dio and Dickinson are obviously phenomenal and hugely inspirational, but Dickinson doesn't have Halfords titanium, helium injected pipes, and Dio doesn't have Halford's dizzying arsenal of voices. Altogether, Halford inspires me the most, so I vote for my favorite heavy metal singer here.

 

By the same token, Halford never went from the intro to Children of the Sea to I.

I mean, I'd argue I've yet to hear a vocal scarier than that in their title track, but I suppose technically speaking he's not virtuosic, just very good and knows exactly how to use his voice.

His voice had an eerie quality to it during the early Sabbath albums but I never found it scary. Plenty of more frightening vocalists out there.
