  1. 1. Album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - heavy metal or something else?

    • SBS is heavy metal.
    • It's not metal. It's something else.

It is metal.

And metal is far from having any sort of limit, so I am confused by his attitude that something is too good to be metal, or whatever the hell he means.

Yes, it f***in metal. What kind of question is that? If Tony Iommi plays it, then it's metal.

If Sabbath have made psychedelic rock or prog rock or jazz-rock or classical album people would call it METAL.

Why everything that BS put out has to be METAL?

There is no album in metal world that sounds a bit similar to SBS. That's a fact.

SBS can't be put in one single genre - heavy metal. That album has handclaps, synths, mellotron, organ, flutes and bagpipes. Think about it and forget about Iommi's heavy riffs for a while. And his riffs are much lighter compared to previous Sabbath albums.

If you want to claim you don't like metal but at the same time you like metal albums you need to just accept it and go on with your day. Don't try and tell us that metal albums are not metal though, that's just stupid. You seem to be too concerned with labels and image by the look of it. If you like an album you like an album don't fret about it being metal.

The riff in A National Acrobat should be proof enough.

Then explain me why Rush's "Cygnus X-1 part I" is not a heavy metal song and "A National Acrobat" is?

Why are you obsessed with this. Is it your mission to deny all metal? :16ton:

I never said that I dislike metal, I like a lot of metal albums. I just said that everything BS make DOESN'T HAVE TO be metal! SBS is an album that musically doesn't belong to heavy metal category.

Cygnus X-1, my favorite Rush song, is practically metal. The closing sequence is most certainly metal by a seventies standard. I won't have the argument about whether or not Rush are metal again, Lucas and I have agreed that sometimes is a perfectly acceptable answer to that question. I will say that, in my opinion, the best definition for metal was said by Ronnie James Dio himself in an interview. "Metal is an attitude." If Zep play just as heavy as Sabbath sometimes, this is why I don't generally consider Zep metal but Sabbath always are. Zep's attitude was that of pure classic rock and roll, with an overdose of classic blues. Sabbath's attitude was one of pure, righteous, powerful heavy metal. Thus, Fluff is labeled metal on my iPod and Dazed And Confused is labeled rock.

However the whole discussion is pretty pointless. The obvious fact is that SBS is metal through and through, and whether or not it is shouldn't have anything to do with how much you like it or what you think of its quality.
