Been running through Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel again with my wife. Level 38 Wilhelm TVHM right now.

That's awesome, I've been playing the past couple days after my seeing daughter start up a new Kreig character and it got me back into it. Still have my old commando (level 56) and am trying HARD to kill Pyro Pete the Ultra Invincible on TVHM in order to finally get some of that seraph currency. Since it's still pretty much impossible for me yet I've been farming Treants for a Corrosion proof variant of the Bee shield on UVHM. No luck yet.

Nice! I played BL2 as Axton with my daughter (Gaige), wife (Maya), and sometimes my cousin (another Axton). That has to be one of my most played games because we did everything and all of the DLC. Half of that time was probably Grandma Flexington's stories though.

And Vermivorous the Invincible...that f***er! We could never get it to spawn.

I don't know how far we're going into TPS this time. Probably UVHM right up until Eclipse in the Claptrap DLC. That thing can suck it! Even in normal that thing is a bitch.

I cleared out some older games in my backlog:

1. Unravel...very nice, sentimental platform with a strong visual style (finished)

2. Wonder Boy...beautifully drawn and the gameplay holds up remarkably well (finished)

3. Ori and the Blind Forest...another gorgeous game, but it also has a great soundtrack. I'm about 30% through this now.

4. Lost in Shadow...an interesting take on platformers; I'm not sure it was as good as the hype said it was, but it was interesting and just the right amount of challenge. (finished)

5. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse...beautiful, but not good for a Kirby game. The controls never felt right, and the drawing mechanic felt more forced than a neat new way to play (finished)

6. Yoshi's Wooly World ... very fun to play with the kids, and another game with a great aesthetic. (about 30% through this)

7. Uncharted 4 ... perhaps one of the most overrated games in modern times. The story is great, but the controls are consistently sloppy and the action consistently stupid. I play these because they are funny and I like the stories...but as video games they aren't very good.

8. Sonic Mania (Total Awesomeness...probably the best Sonic ever made)

Yeah it continues to polarise. I will get to it eventually.

I played through this twice. Once on normal and again on the hardest difficulty. The section with the exploding mummies on the hardest difficulty was infuriating. There's no way to beat it without trying a ton of times until you find the exact path. It was hard because it was cheap and that's always bad game design. I did like the game overall, but f**k those mummies.

Thanks, duly noted! Have you played the latest installment yet?

Nah, not yet. I played Rise of the Tomb Raider right before Lost Legacy came out and was kinda feeling burnt out on that type of game.

Sweet, that stuff is right up my street so be keen to read your take when finished. I still have such a backlog of older gen, that will have to wait for another year or so.

I've been slowly chipping away at Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice on PC. I haven't been thoroughly creeped out by a game since I played Amnesia: The Dark Descent for the first time.

Mario Odyssey

Lego Ninjago

Sonic Mania

Forza 7

Just got a Project Scorpio edition XBox One X, can't wait to test Forza on it.

I skipped out on Forza 6, and thoroughly miss the glory days of Forza 3 & 4. Curious if the new Forza game could pull me back in.

Also as I have a now dated 500GB 2014 Xbox One, I'd like to upgrade to a One X next year

Do you have a 4K TV? If so, it might be worth the investment (and upgrade to Netflix 4K).

Regarding Forza, I don't really know about the past ones. People tell me that the progression on this is bad, but I haven't had many issues so far. It plays great, looks beautiful, and I can put it at a level so that I'm not just crashing into walls every 30 seconds, which is a problem for me when the games are pure simulations. From what I read, when you remove the baby controls I like, it plays very well as a sim.

I do not have a 4K TV. I was thinking about a 2018 upgrade to current-gen stuff, for once.

As far as Forza progression, how much worse could it possibly be than Forza 5? The main thing I want is current-year cars, really. The glory days of all that Forza 3 & 4 had to offer are long gone.

As a teenager I adored the Gran Turismo franchises. But I don't think those would be enough to get me to transfer console loyalty
