I wanna see Brian make the top ten

Depending on how many guitarists Lucas has in the following round(s), we might not know who's actually top 10.

IMHO, Brian deserves to go deep in this tourney though

Lucas, we're choosing 21 but how many will move to the following round?

How many rounds will there be?

yep, the Top 10 from each round will move to the next round

In the case of a tie, I'm debating whether to bring all those who are tied into the next round - for example, Schenker and Blackmore are currently tied in their round, and it would be unfair for me to decide which moves on .. I mean, who advances, the one I voted for ?? -- that doesn't seem fair ..

One - les paul, gibbons, collins, methany, cochrane, bb king, rhoades

Two - beck, lifeson, may, howe, vaughn, cantrell, morse

Three - johnson, hendrix, king, holdsworth, buchanan, hackett, santana

Two was the hardest group to reduce to seven. Three Was the easiest group.

I don't like obvious choices and the 'flash' guys.

Guys on the list I never heard of, but no Buckethead? WTF?

HB, as I mentioned, even though there are 120 names, not everyone was gonna make it

Ry Cooder, Roger Fischer, Johnny Winter, Tony McAlpine, Larry Coryell, Vivian Campbell, Dickey Betts, Dave Meniketti, Timo Tolkki - the list goes on and on of guys that I agonized over but ultimately left off ..

As far as Buckethead .. yes, he came to mind, but in the big picture - aside from wearing a pail on his head, has he really distinguished himself as an influential player or songwriter ... Sure he's got chops and is a fantastic player, but if that is the only criteria, then what about the thousands of nameless guys on youtube who have made some technically incredible videos ??

Buckethead has a relationship with his guitar that is next level..

Easily the most versatile player i have seen.

Great list though. Cant get them all in.

Honorable mention to Terry Kath and Joe Walsh

Holy cheese, Terry Kath would make my list in a heartbeat, especially considering Jimi is in the lead rn.

Voted.

But there are a lot of names on this list that i've never heard of or have never heard anything from. A couple I just voted for because I knew their names.

Well, when it comes down to it, any name that anyone comes up with not on the list wouldn't have beat the eventual winner. I'd even bet that the top 5 guys here would've beat (in votes) any name not on the list.

These polls are entertaining but basically it's based on favorites instead of skill or Eddie Van Halen wouldn't have less votes than Lifeson.

But isn't that part of a musician's talent - becoming a favorite to a lot of people, I think, should carry some weight as far as what it takes to become a Guitar God

Taking inspiration from Duck and JB's Gods Of The Cinema Poll, we have now the GODS OF ELECTRIC GUITAR mega poll ..

The idea is the same as the meticulously crafted actor poll, with the only change being to select SEVEN names from each group .. So in this, the first round, you will select seven from Group One, seven from Group Two and seven from Group Three ( twenty one total )

There are 120 names here ... It was agonizing leaving some names off ... I did my best to take into consideration the player's impact, which included his place in history as far as being at the forefront of creating a style, his ability and chops - and how that translated into meaningful and relevant music, etc etc

I see a Gibson logo on that headstock!

I agree.

How can you measure skill with this kind of thing anyway? You can't.

If measured on pure skill wouldn't/shouldn't Satriani have more votes? Shouldn't he be near the very top? I voted for him but he won't win this. He won't even come close and that's easily understandable.

I also voted George Harrison who is very far from Joe in terms of...many things.

One's a guitar wizard and the other has made some magic that's lasted. Both are more than worthy of praise.

Skill? Yeah, how do you measure that here?

Agreed JB

And I also agree that both Satch and George Harrison should be considered all time greats

If there were to be a device that measured notes per second and technical difficultly, I don't think anyone would want that to determine their favorite ..

That's why a poll like this is legit and fun

( and yes, I have seen the videos on youtube of the guys who play the fastest according to some measure of speed .. Note: none of them made this list nor should they  )

I voted for Eddie and Alex but, when it comes to skills, you can’t deny that Alex has great nunchucks skills plus he’s a pilot.

For the most part, this turned into a popularity contest for me. I didn't vote for just the technically proficient or the most influential. I mostly voted for guitarists from my favorite bands or just favorite solo guitarists (which are typically technical wizards anyway).
