I'm not surprised at all with the love Hendrix has received thus far ..

And it is early ... but to see Eddie start off this slow is a little surprising

I hope that a) the disparity in votes doesn't discourage members from voting and b) I'm wondering if, as the deadline approaches, some will change their vote

It's not early in voting. Not really. We're probably looking at 40-50% of votes.

Some stuff...

a) some switcheroo might happen

b) future voters might give pity votes to some players

c) some future voters might toss votes to someone who they'd like to challenge Jimi (but who they wouldn't have voted for if the numbers weren't strongly in Jimi's favor

d) some or all of the above

e) Van Halen fans might have the tendency to wake up in the afternoon, and will log on and vote after sobering up

"...after sobering up...." Does that actually happen for VH fans?

THAT'S funny !!

Certainly leaning towards Jimi or SRV, but such a short career compared to the others.

Not tryin to sway you one way or another HB, but this is good stuff to help clear the mind and assist in decision making

Not any longer.

Clearly greatest means favorite so i choose alex.

It does seem to me that alex has been the most consistent the longest.

It also seems to this GOD list was

Geezer Or Dead... not enough younger players.

Do you think any younger players would've gotten this deep in the tourney? If so, which young guns are you talking about?

No

As a near dead geezer myself most of my young guns are probably near 30 if not older.

Young guns i like are paul waggoner of between the buried and me. Tosin abasi of animals as leaders.

I would put Syu from Galneryus ahead of a few guys on this final round list

Angel Of Salvation is my favorite guitar song of the past two or three decades

The leads at 2:25 then 4:32 and the epic one at 8:02 are quite good ... and while I realize shredding isn't everything, it's his ability to play amazing stuff in a very lyrical and well composed way ... The guy is amazing, and I think he is the next step natural progression coming from the Schenker, Uli Roth and Randy Rhoads tree

Righteous ripping!

Very reminiscent to dream theater imo.

Like dt the vocals are a bit much for me too.

I think very highly of the first liquid tension experiment disc

Another vote for Jimi from me because, well, he's fukking JIMI HENDRIX for God's sake. The word "genius" gets thrown around a lot, but in his case it may not be a strong enough adjective to describe this man 's guitar work. Edited by driventotheedge

Loves me some SRV vibrato....like he's strangling the f**k out of the neck.

First saw him on Austin City Limits and was floored...and absolutely mindblown when he did a better version of Voodoo Chile than Jimi. :o

I never saw him live...despite having a chance to see him at the local county fair at his 2nd to last concert before he died. One of my major life regrets.

Voted for Blackmore.

I'm a Blackmore fan-boy until the day I die.

I love Alex, Hendrix, SRV but IMO Blackmore defeats all.

Technique. Musicality. Song output. Composition. Improvisation.

Tone. Melody. Leads. Riffs. Attitude. Bad-assness.

Blackmore has all the bases covered.

Looks like Hendrix has got this in the bag.

oh it's very early. lots of voting left.

Steve Howe can steal it with a mere 14 votes!

All I need to do is make 14 more profiles and tada! We have a new leader!

Ritchie was also a trailblazer and broke ground incorporating the classical influence into his music ..

All of the guys on this list have made some incredible contributions to not only the guitar world, but also the music world, and Blackmore is right up there with the best, no doubt

Another reality is that I switched my Randy Rhodes vote in the last few hours of the last round. This tied Ritchie for 3rd place (which would've been enough to enter this final). THEN, Ritchie got a couple of more votes which killed Randy off.

Eddie is capable of playing many styles, but he doesn't very often. But absolutely changed the electric guitar landscape on a level at par with Berry, Hendrix, Page, and Iommi. Those are probably the Big Four for me. Ask the average Joe to name the greatest electric guitar player and I'd wager those would be the names that would come up.

The poll does say "electric", rather than rock... So, Hendrix it is for me.

ETA: I didn't see the results until after voting. I guess I nailed the consensus thinking.

There was this from the early part of the round 1 thread...

Seems like an awful lot of work to confirm Edward Van Halen's place at the top. But, let's get to it...

Jimi and SRV might have something to say about that

I did that as well. Although Ritchie is a dick, you can't deny that he had a longer career and influence than Randy. Perhaps an unfair comparison due to Randy's death, but small details count at this level.

Honestly surprised by these results. Not the fact that Jimi's winning (or even dominating), but the fact that Alex only has one vote, Howe and Gilmore don't have any, and EVH only has two.

The father of one of Stevie' s friends owned a metalworking shop, and Stevie had him get some super heavy metal bar stock and fabricate whammy bars for his Strats. I remember a video where his Strat is on the floor, he has his foot on the body, and he is jerking on the whammy bar as if he's trying to rip the whole vibrato unit off the body. Edited by pjbear05
