Fordgalaxy
I thought of a quick response to this thread but it would've offended 80% of the forum. That hasn't stopped anyone on here before! But kudos on your restraint, whateverthehell kudos are. Kudos (from the Ancient Greek: κῦδος) is acclaim or praise for exceptional achievement. bluefox4000
Wow, I stepped into an elitist thread... Backing out slowly. not elitist. garth brooks just sucks. Mick That's one opinion, but obviously there are a shit ton more who disagree with you. I'm not a fan of his music but I know personally he's a genuinely nice guy and is very good to his fans, unlike the former greatest rock drummer who is also a prick to his fans, and other people. i shouldn't have to state that. of COURSE it's my opinion. (The right one) i'm kidding......or am i? Mick
JohnnyBlaze
The tokyo subway map is the most interesting thing about this thread. ;) How about a pic of the RUSH hour(s) commute in which train staff have to shove commuters into the train so that more can fit? http://azvision.az/photos/tokyo%20metro.jpg http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0e144rKSt94/V724Oxz1LbI/AAAAAAABPmc/XWSdEpgjWPg/tokyo-subway-pushers-36.jpg?imgmax=1600 Crazily overcrowded trains or Garth Brooks...people can get used to anything. :PNote the nonchalant looking guy in the baseball cap and blue top with the ear phones (2nd pic). Listening to Garth?

There's nothing like having someone else's briefcase pressed hard against your crotch, your nose drowning in someone's ocean of perfume or cologne, an elbow poking the side of your ribs, and an umbrella finding the exact center of your spine. And yesterday it was even worse! It's like having Garth on the earphones turned up to 11 !

laughedatbytime
He came on the scene at just the right time. There weren't too many crossover country guys in the early 90s. He filled that niche and cashed in. And now we have an endless supply of Garth brooks descendants.. horrifying If you look back at his career, Garth brooks sort of invented a new style of pop country.. I don't recall any of his type in the 80sEddie Rabbitt.

KenJennings
When I listen to a song like "Much Too Young", I can feel where those lyrics are coming from. I can feel the heartbreak of being a young fella on the road, going gig to gig, wearing himself too thin and missing the opportunities that could've been in life. But instead "lonely women and bad booze seem to be the only friends I've left at all". That emotion all pours through his vocals, and I don't think there was anyone better. And it was one knock out after another from Garth for a number of years. Friends in Low Places is as good a barroom anthem as has ever been written. Standing Outside the Fire brings in rock and pop influences that reflect something more along the lines of Billy Joel. Two Pina Coladas is a beautiful pastiche of the Jimmy Buffet parrothead vibes. Garth's "In Pieces" album was one of the first CDs I ever owned. Maybe the first. His position near the top is a reflection of his ability to bring people together- to connect a broad range of people. If it's not for you, that's fine. But his skill as an artist should be very evident.

Lucas
Modern country is to music what the Kardashians are to the entertainment industry "Country" was not yet a term for folk music until McCarthy went after Pete Seeger in 1952 for his "communist leanings" .. The music industry dropped the "folk" tag and pushed ahead for "country" .. Pete Seeger and so many of the country artists of earlier generations were activists and out spoken against war and the influence of big business .. What is now pushed as country music is the polar opposite of how it all started

What is now pushed as country music is the polar opposite of how it all started What eventually became country started as hillbilly music and included what we would call bluegrass, blues, swing, and folk. In the 40s someth8ng called honky took developed and is what most closely resembles what we call country now. My dad was a huge fan and a little of it rubbed off on me. His favorites were Johnny cash, hank sr, buck Owens and the whole Bakersfield sub genre.
