Why is Garth Brooks the second best-selling music artist in the US?

Tried to watch one of his videos...seriously, we're talking multimillionaire budgets here, and we have a bunch of c***s prancing round in stetsons?

Seems to fill the same sort of niche as Pickeldick do for redneck rockers.

Easily ingested opium for the masses.

His music has just the right mix of country, pop and rock to gain a wide range of listeners. That's why he sold so many albums. He has a universal appeal.

That's not by accident. He was a marketing major at Oklahoma State before he was a singer. He has written songs of his own, but he usually uses songs written by others on his albums and obviously he has a really good ear for what will sell! I think the marketing helped him package himself to be so successful.

My kids used to love him so I heard him a lot. I like Alan Jackson better but Garth is alright.

I'd google pickeldick, but I fear what will come up. Why don't you just tell me what it is, Fridge.

Yeah, there is no telling what could come up when you google a word like that. Could be dirty or funny maybe both.

Which is worse, Garth or Nickelback?

There is no "neither" option.

What do you think about sales of his albums?

Sales mean nothing for the general populace that listens to his music. Good for him for making the right combination of pop, rock, and country music to appeal to the vast majority of your average music listener.

Personally what do you think about him?

Really don't have an opinion on him. I'm sure he's a nice guy, probably a good family man. Just really never took the time to listen to his music. All I know is that when he tours, people flock to him like flies on dog shit. Seriously, have you seen the demand for his tickets? f**k record sales, he's made a killing for live performance! The only other group I see that are generally excited for an artist to tour are Phish fans and Deadheads, and they can be pretty hard to beat in that department.

Do you own any of his albums in your home collection?

My mom has a greatest hits compilation of his that she plays sometimes, but I'm often too busy doing something else to really listen to anything from it.

Wow, I stepped into an elitist thread...

Backing out slowly.

Not elitist, just people sharing their honest opinions on him. Just depends on how much you read into what people post and how you read it.

Says he's worth almost $300,000,000.00.

I just tried to listen to one of his songs and got about fifteen seconds into it before I stopped. I despise country western twangy singing. Just don't have an ear for it at all.

my least fav genre by far.

Mick

Mine is folk punk (followed by trap - or just really bad and unimaginative hip hop which is polluting the music scene today)

Behind those two is probably "country pop".

Enjoy.

Mine too. Like I said, I never developed an ear for it. I can't stand it - male or female - I hate that twang.

I like certain classic country. Very rootsy and Americana. But somewhere along the way things changed and Garth happened.

not elitist. garth brooks just sucks.

That's one opinion, but obviously there are a shit ton more who disagree with you. I'm not a fan of his music but I know personally he's a genuinely nice guy and is very good to his fans, unlike the former greatest rock drummer who is also a prick to his fans, and other people.

He came on the scene at just the right time. There weren't too many crossover country guys in the early 90s. He filled that niche and cashed in. And now we have an endless supply of Garth brooks descendants.. horrifying

If you look back at his career, Garth brooks sort of invented a new style of pop country.. I don't recall any of his type in the 80s

Yeah, if I started a thread for every artist I think is overrated or sucks (but a lot of people like) a bunch of people here would have their panties in a twist.
