  3. 3. Group Three - Choose SEVEN From This Group

Recommended Posts

Taking inspiration from Duck and JB's Gods Of The Cinema Poll, we have now the GODS OF ELECTRIC GUITAR mega poll ..

The idea is the same as the meticulously crafted actor poll, with the only change being to select SEVEN names from each group .. So in this, the first round, you will select seven from Group One, seven from Group Two and seven from Group Three ( twenty one total )

There are 120 names here ... It was agonizing leaving some names off ... I did my best to take into consideration the player's impact, which included his place in history as far as being at the forefront of creating a style, his ability and chops - and how that translated into meaningful and relevant music, etc etc

I wanna see Brian make the top ten

Depending on how many guitarists Lucas has in the following round(s), we might not know who's actually top 10.

IMHO, Brian deserves to go deep in this tourney though

Lucas, we're choosing 21 but how many will move to the following round?

How many rounds will there be?

10 rounds with 50 votes each in the 6 man final! As usual!

GREAT!!!! I would've wanted 15 rounds but I'm flexible.

But why isn't Woody Allen represented?!

Bogart?!

Also, where's the great English thespian, Martin Barre?!

Horseshit!

You guys are hacks!

Well, it's called "GODS of the Electric Guitar".

You should make a GODDESSES of the Electric Guitar thread.

I know I'd vote for this woman in the first round at least:

One - les paul, gibbons, collins, methany, cochrane, bb king, rhoades

Two - beck, lifeson, may, howe, vaughn, cantrell, morse

Three - johnson, hendrix, king, holdsworth, buchanan, hackett, santana

Two was the hardest group to reduce to seven. Three Was the easiest group.

I don't like obvious choices and the 'flash' guys.

Guys on the list I never heard of, but no Buckethead? WTF?

Certainly a tough decision figuring out the 120 names to put on there without living anyone off (if I had to pick a top ten, only one of my top ten is not included, so I think Lucas did a decent job on the listing).

I shall be campaigning for Duane Allman and Warren Haynes. Lerxst as well, but being on a Rush forum, I don't think there will be any issues with him getting out of the first round.

I agree with HemiBeers that group two was the toughest to get down to 7. For me, I only had 5 in group one that were easy picks and thus had to vote for two which I would consider (honorably mentions)

W. Allen is more of a fiddler, or diddler, than a picker.

M. Barre is getting drunk with Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson. Nugent is making fun of them. :(

Great thread btw. I don't know where you find the time!

I'm not doing this one, my input was purely in an advisory capacity. This list is all Lucas though.

I don't know most of them. I don't like polls that don't include women.

Boots, I was very mindful of this going in .. I thought about including players like, for example, Jennifer Batten or Erja Lyytinen ..

But that opened another door - do I start including female electric guitarists that may not have the chops or songs, but because of the fact that they are female, they may have inspired a younger generation of females to pick up the instrument ..

In the end, I felt that, because this putting this poll together was complicated enough, I would just leave it as a GODS poll ...

A GUITAR GODDESS poll is definitely something I would be interested in - either participating in or creating ..

BTW:

I have already complied a rough outline for the ACTRESS poll, so I look forward to that as the followup for the actor poll

HB, as I mentioned, even though there are 120 names, not everyone was gonna make it

Ry Cooder, Roger Fischer, Johnny Winter, Tony McAlpine, Larry Coryell, Vivian Campbell, Dickey Betts, Dave Meniketti, Timo Tolkki - the list goes on and on of guys that I agonized over but ultimately left off ..

As far as Buckethead .. yes, he came to mind, but in the big picture - aside from wearing a pail on his head, has he really distinguished himself as an influential player or songwriter ... Sure he's got chops and is a fantastic player, but if that is the only criteria, then what about the thousands of nameless guys on youtube who have made some technically incredible videos ??

yep, the Top 10 from each round will move to the next round

In the case of a tie, I'm debating whether to bring all those who are tied into the next round - for example, Schenker and Blackmore are currently tied in their round, and it would be unfair for me to decide which moves on .. I mean, who advances, the one I voted for ?? -- that doesn't seem fair ..

I'd put him above alot of the 'flash' guys in the list, who also tend to fall short in the 'songwriter' area. But we move on...

Buckethead can kick EVH's ass with his nunchucks.

Napoleon Dynamite: I don't even have any skills. You know, like nunchuck skills, bo hunting skills, computer hacking skills. Girls only like guys who have great skills.
