You may not like some of the responses you will get but no, his voice did not age well. To his credit, on the last couple tours he did some things to help keep his voice as good as it could be. It doesn't bother me that his voice did go downhill like it did. There's not much he could have done given he was getting older and had toured non stop for so many years singing in a higher range. Geddy gave his all for the fans and always put in the best effort possible vocally even when it was obvious he was struggling on the last few tours. I still enjoyed the hell out of every show I saw until the end, but the last three live releases are nearly unwatchable because his voice is too brutal to endure. Marathon was a highlight! He got a virus that went into his ear. I remember an interview where he said he had to have his ear drained. I'm pretty sure that would break his heart. I’m sure he’s very aware of his vocal limitations now. He’s mentioned he started having problems even before Snakes. I'm pretty sure that would break his heart. Well, sure. Don't get me wrong, Geddy is one of my favorite musicians ever, and is one of true good guys of rock. Nothing but love and respect for him. I am just saying, his voice hit the wall. Geddy was more than likely the first person to notice that his voice was starting to decline. Yeah, not bad - I particularly love "aaaaand incomplete" I like what one of the commenters says: "How the f**k is it humanly possible to hit those notes at that age?? what a legend" - certainly a different perspective from what you get on TRF often... Anthemic Posted October 21, 2017 Share Posted October 21, 2017 i thought geddy's voice sounded fine at all the shows i went to in the 2000s. he was always a little all over the place live even in his prime vocal years and as far as i'm concerned in the later years he only got slightly worse about that. and anyway those shows were so fun and rocking and shredding musically that it really didn't matter much that the vocals weren't the best. i never heard anyone at an actual gig complain about the vocals. one thing is that he was very inconsistent in the later 2000s, at each show he'd sound amazing on some songs, kind of murder others, and range from acceptable to good on all the rest, and which songs these were would change at each show. but i'll bet that if you had a pro recording of every song from every show on those tours, by choosing the best performance of the tour of each song you could make an album that would sound like he had very little vocal decline. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sometimes he can sound rough and "yodel-y", particularly on older songs like "The Spirit Of Radio", or "Closer To The Heart" but for the most part I like his deeper tone.
