Tough one .. Kubrick didn't just make great films, he made all time great films

I can't think of another director who made so many consistent, all time great films.

He wasn't prolific compared to other directors with decades long careers but what he made was just unbeatable IMHO.

Fear and Desire and Killer's Kiss are Kubrick's film school projects. Films that show potential but suffer from lack of experience and lack of knowledge.

The Killing is where his talent takes off. It's a fun film injected with originality and inspiration.

Paths of Glory is where his genius reveals itself. A master has moved the bar.

Spartacus is his Hollywood film. He didn't belong there, he left and never looked back. It's still an entertaining movie with all its restrictions.

Lolita is the slightest of missteps. It's still a great film but suffers from too much ambition.

Dr. Strangelove is a masterpiece. Silly and intelligent.

2001 is in its own class. A visual masterpiece. Some may think it's boring but you can't deny it's beautiful and perfectly edited.

A Clockwork Orange will always be relevant. Scary stuff when you think how accurate it is with its vision and predictions.

Barry Lyndon is a moving painting. And riveting storytelling when you give it a chance. The cinematography alone makes it a masterpiece.

The Shining is a Kubrick movie, not a Stephen King movie. It's more disturbing and unsettling than scary.

Full Metal Jacket is not the movie you wanted to see. It just shows you how war beats you down until you accept to survive.

Eyes Wide Shut is a dream movie. The first time you watch it you don't get it. You might even hate it. Watch it again and you realize how hard it is to be honest with yourself and that sometimes it's probably best if you're not. And then best if you are.

Eyes Wide Shut and Lolita would like to interject here.

I’d have to go with 2001, even though I’m more entertained by Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, and Clockwork. 2001 works on all levels for me as art and entertainment and challenging myself.

Eyes Wide Shut is one I have not seen, but I do consider Lolita a great film

Neither are nowhere near Kubrick's best but I liked them both.

I'll take "A Clockwork Orange". All the other movies on the list are just weird :)

Right right, there's nothing weird about our "humble narrator" drinking drugged milk and killing an old cat lady with a giant statue of a penis

Grade: an easy A+

Eyes Wide Shut is way up there for me. Love it. I don't think he ever made a bad film.

Not that I've seen anyway.

I'd give everything on that list between a B+ to A+ except for The Killing and Killer's Kiss which I haven't seen.

The Killing is a solid noirish-heist film. Terrific cast. Killer's Kiss is probably his 'worst' (excluding Fear And Desire) work but it's still good and you can see Kubrick's hand is all over the visual aspect of the movie.
