Tablet Erasing

Anyone have an idea to completely erase a tablet? Since I've been using the Fire HT 8 I need to completely erase my old tablet. Is it as simple as rebooting the tablet, clearing all the data caches, or do I need to erase the programs individually? Thanks.

Make sure that you have anything you want to keep backed up before you do this because it will wipe everything. Go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset and then tap Reset device.

Thanks Tony. I picked up a new tablet, so I actually want to wipe the old one clean before recycling it. Edited by pjbear05

It's completely irreversible? I ask, because pj says he wants to recycle it, and security would be an issue.

I went through this in a way with my iPhone when I left my old office. One other step I'd suggest is to fill the device's memory up with music or podcasts or whatever after resetting it and then reset it again. That way you overwrite what was on there that was yours. Somebody smarter than me on here pointed out that would make it nearly impossible to recover the data even with pretty sophisticated equipment.

How to Recover Your Files After a Factory Reset

Many electronic devices, such as PCs, smartphones and tablets, are equipped with a software feature called a factory reset. This erases all information on a device as part of the process of restoring its software to the original manufacturer's settings. As a result, this removes all of your personal files stored on the internal hard drive such as pictures, emails and SMS messages. In the event of such a data loss, you can still use data recovery software to save lost data before it becomes completely overwritten.

Where Your Files Go

When a factory reset is performed on a device, all of your old photos, emails, contacts, SMS messages and other personal data are wiped from the internal hard drive. However, this is not considered a secure wipe, which means the original hard drive records aren't overwritten with zeroes. The imprint of these files still exists on the physical hard drive disc, even if it isn t accessible from the device s interface.
