Why did they include 'In the Mood' in their live setlist for so long?

It was a single and their last link to the beginning. I guess it became untenable to keep it. I was never of a fan of it either except when they lampooned toward the end.

Working Man kind of replaced it in the "evening with" shows after the hiatus. Not really a fan of Working Man either (except for the reggae bits) oddly enough.

The song just doesn't represent who they are AT ALL.

So?? Who cares??

If they preform/preformed it then so be it.

I like that song tbh

There's no need to be dismissive of it.

I am just saying something, is all.

U were the one who made that rude comment, not me.

We each said our own thing, in our own belittling way. It's just a difference of style.

Yeah, but u did not have to be rude in saying it.

You did not have to be dismissive in saying yours.

I'm just trying to say something true.

It's a cracking little song.

I always thought Peart ruined it though by trying to be too busy, when all it needed was a simple groove....

 Some songs, like in the Mood or Working Man, work best when the drummer just stays in the pocket and grooves.

I like the song frankly.

Sure it's a competitively shallow song from their early days but it's good early 70s hard rock.

It's a decent song that's fun to play but a throwaway relative to their catalog. Finding My Way fulfills the same purpose while being a better song.

Following the 2112 tour, Finding My Way was only played RTB, P/G, PeW, AFTK while In The Mood was played on all of those besides RTB. Of course, Finding My Way came back in part as an instrumental on R30, if you'd count that

It was their party song. It was the song they wrote that was kind of the perfect closer. It made you get up and dance and have fun one last time before they left. Plus when they started adding in the jams and stuff later on, it was a great way to end the night. You could tell in videos they loved it every time.

I've been wondering about this for years. Honest to god. It just seems bizarre to play as the last encore song on EVERY TOUR until 1991 and then NEVER AGAIN. Like did Geddy just realize one night on the Presto tour,

"Holy shit, has this song actually always sucked and we didn't realize it?"

And then after that, the encore was a medley of 2112, Finding My Way, La Villa, Anthem, Red Barchetta and Spirit of Radio,

Which for the record, is roughly 1000x cooler.

They gave it up in 1990. If I were to guess, I'd say Neil was the one who killed it when they passed around possible songs for the set for the Roll The Bones Tour.

After what was done to it on the Presto Tour I was kind of glad they put it out of its misery.

Coolest thing about that Roll The Bones Tour encore was the Neil Peart Townsend windmill in Finding My Way.

I would say that after a couple of hours of fiddly guitar solos, tricky time signatures, drum solos not to mention arty farty lyrics ,that people were falling asleep,so to waken them they thrashed out a little dirty about sex. Sex sells.

In his defense, I think he was being truthful when he said "F#ck You".

Don't take things so personally. We are just a bunch of idiots trying to have some fun in a forum on the internet.
