Why did they include 'In the Mood' in their live setlist for so long?

Why did Rush play the dumb song 'In The Mood' so long live? I've listened to live bootlegs and hear them playing this simple, side 2, throwaway cowbell song up until at least 1982 as an encore. Really? What's up guys? It's beyond my level of understanding that up until that time, that they couldn't play other cool bad-ass songs from other albums. Is that song popular in other cities/markets? 'Cause it's not ever played on the radio here in Detroit. Neil's not on it. It's not signature Rush. It's lame....so why play it so long? I have some suggestions for some early material: Finding My Way, Fly By Night, What You're Doing.......

They played it every tour up to the Presto Tour. Presto Tour was the last time they played that song. I wished they would have played it on Clockwork Angels Tour because I really like that song, and its even better live!

Not sure this in the right section.

It's a simple little rocker that worked well live. Playing all that technical stuff every night for a whole tour wasn't exactly an easy task for them. They probably just wanted at least one song per show that they could have fun playing.

The song just doesn't represent who they are AT ALL. Of any song out of their catalog...this one stands out the most, it's a sore thumb. Fly By Night was an early hit too, why not play that?

Rush fans don't want to dance. We're a different breed. If you wanna hear a song like this, go to a Bad Company concert. Guys don't want to hear it, we wanna hear the heavy sci-fi stuff. Maybe women wanna hear it,...but there's one problem. Women didn't go to Rush concerts back then. Even Rush joke about that. I don't wanna hear a simple love song with a cowbell at a Rush concert, sorry. Am I in the minority here? A much better early song is What You're Doing...which they coincidentally started playing live again recently.

I can see playing it early on in their setlist because of a lack of material in the early days...but up until 1989? Really? Sometimes I think the Rush guys are out of touch with their fans. Neil once said that if he were a fan, Power Windows would be a favorite because it is richly textured. Huh?

The dancing thing was a joke. And yes women did go to their shows back then. I was one so I know. :P

It's a cracking little song.

I always thought Peart ruined it though by trying to be too busy, when all it needed was a simple groove....

So?? Who cares??

If they preform/preformed it then so be it.

I like that song tbh

There's no need to be dismissive of it.

I am just saying something, is all.

U were the one who made that rude comment, not me.

We each said our own thing, in our own belittling way. It's just a difference of style.
