It is a f***ing masterpiece. Not just a masterpiece, but a f***ing masterpiece. I love every second of the album.

The Camera Eye is NOT too long.

Witch Hunt is brilliant as it makes you feel like you are in an actual witch hunt. Some of Neil's best lyrics too.

Vital Signs, while not a classic per se, still rocks out with a cool vibe.

I f***ing agree with every thing your post. :P

Although I voted "no" as far as Moving Pictures being a masterpiece, I feel the album deserves the status it has achieved ... That said, all the references to MP being the band's pinnacle and defining moment might be a bit exaggerated due to what followed ..

Rush was a unique, confident machine at the time of MP, and soon after, they began an attempt to redefine themselves and go in a different direction .. Not that there is anything wrong what that, however, with MP we had essentially 4 members of the machine ( Terry Brown included ) forging a very confident and RUSH sound .. and as the 80s progressed, the band began a hit-and-miss string of albums that would never come close to the well honed style and sound of MP, and what led up to it ..

Hemispheres, for example, is positioned in between some incredible albums, whereas Moving Pictures seems to be the end of what is considered classic Rush ..

There is one thing wrong with Camera Eye, only one thing...the band didn't play it in Manhattan during R40.

I would say yes. In my opinion, there is only one minor flaw: The Camera Eye doesn't need to be as long as it is. It's a good song, but it would have been just as good (if not better) if it were only about 5-6 minutes long.

Way back when I first listened to Moving Pictures, Camera Eye did nothing for me. I regarded it as filler; I just thought it was way too long and repetitive.

Then at some point - I can't recall when but it was a long time ago - I was listening to the album while dozing off and fell in love with that part that comes at the beginning of the NYC and London parts where there is that repetitive 4 chord pattern where the 4th chord is sustained. I made a loop of that sequence and listened to it again and again and again. I found it so soothingly meditative.

[Kind of ironic since one of the things I initially didn't like about the song is that I thought it was too repetitive.]

It became one of my favorite Rush songs and was thrilled to see it was on some R40 stylists.

I saw two shows on the R40 tour but Camera Eye wasn't in the setlist either time (neither was Natural Science, another song I really wanted to see). My only regret about the R40 tour (fortunately I got to see them play both on live periscope feeds).

I loved Witch Hunt from the first time I heard it (many do not), but never liked Vital Signs (still don't).

This is why I can understand why some may think MP is overrated; a lot of people don't particularly care for any of the songs on side 2 (though for me the only disappointing song on the album is Vital Signs).

i like permanent waves better.i think MP got a lot of fans who were on the bubble about being rush fans to total rush fans.i may be different but i think farwell to kings and 2112 are just as good as any of the other albums they ever made.signals is damn good too.

Played this album twice the last two days. I rarely listen to Rush anymore.

It remains one of the most beautiful sounding, captivating and enchanting listens ever. It has a real majesty about it, a quality that, although it lacks some of the ballsier moments of earlier albums, rises above even it's own great parts to become an album greater than even the band who made it.

And considering the quality of their discography, that is saying a lot.

I'm surprised you didn't see the Time Machine Tour. Rush must have listened to the weak whiny Rush fruits who constantly complained about the length of "The Camera Eye." They cut out a part in the live version.

PISSED ME THE FUKK OFF!!

I need a drink like those two Pat. Humans who call themselves RUSH fans, yet bitch about this masterpiece.

I am sure many of these people are kids who have only seen RUSH twice since the Vapor Trails Tour.

Vapor Trails... a masterpiece of shit.
