The only songs on this album I like are Animate, Leave That Thing Alone and Between Sun and Moon. Everyday Glory is okay but I pretty much loathe the rest.

What about Cut To the Chase?? It's as metal as osmium! And it has an amazing Eric Johnesque ALEX guitar solo!

Eh. A few years ago, I listened to Counterparts several times in an attempt to "get" it, since so many people seem to like it, and came away unimpressed. I don't remember Cut To The Chase as standing out in any way from the rest of the sludge, but perhaps I'll listen to it again, and see if any appreciation can develop :)

After that you'll get back to late night puppy stalking!

Animate, Cut to the Chase, and Leave That Thing Alone are the three best tracks on the album. The Speed of Love is by far the weakest. Edited by Disk98

My 3 faves: Everyday Glory, Leave that Thing Alone, and Cold Fire

Weakest: Stick it Out, Between Sun & Moon, Double Agent

I don't understand the dislike of EG by some people. It is an awesome song. And Leave that Thing Alone is one of my favourite instrumentals. But then, I like all of Rush's instrumentals - I have a hard time picking my favourite.

For the top 3 I went with:

1. Everyday Glory

2. Cold Fire

3. Alien Shore (a very hard pick over the excellent Speed of Love)

For the weak songs I vote for Double Agent, Leave that Thing Along and the entire album prior to Nobody's Hero.

For the top 3 song the first 2 were easy picks but that 3rd one was a hard pick. Really like both Alien Shore & Speed of Love. Between the Sun & Moon contended as well, but it really came down to the 2 I mentioned.

Top 3 - Animate, Leave That Thing Alone, Everyday Glory (Honorable Mention: Cold Fire)

Weak 3 - Cut to the Chase, Between Sun and Moon, Double Agent

Love live version of LTTA, Geddy's bass playing is unreal. Big fan of lyrics/verses of Everyday Glory.

Best tracks on this my least favorite Rush album are: Animate, Cut To The Chase & The Speed Of Love.

I really don't like Between Sun & Moon that much...Leave That thing Alone! is good...rest of the songs are middle of the road & akward sounding.

Top 3: Animate, Nobody's Hero, Leave That Thing Alone

Weak tracks: Everything else

You like this album better than I do!

I couldn't pick a top three.

The dissonance of Animate and Stick It Out make them two of the worst non-Half the World tracks in the catalog and The Speed of Love is wretched.

Top 3: Animate, Nobody's Hero, Leave That Thing Alone

Weak tracks: The Speed of Love, Alien Shore and Double Agent

Stick It Out instead of Alien Shore. The chorus in that song is pretty lame to my ears.

For my top 3 tracks I changed a vote from Nobody's Hero to Between Sun and Moon. For me the weakest songs are Speed of Love and Stick It Out(not bad overall, but the chorus is meh). Double Agents is solid.

I really dig this album.

I just listened to "Between Sun and Moon" and I noticed that a bridge before the guitar solo sounds Who-ish.

Yeah! Never noticed that before.

Sounds like something from Tommy. Neil's playing here is kinda Moonish, especially that triplet thing around 2:49.

Still have no idea how to vote on this one. Guess I'll have to listen to the damned thing.

Good catch, TK!

I m not really prepared to give a fair top 3 bottom 3 answer to this question because I would have to listen to it all again which is something I haven't done in years and honestly have no interest in doing. At least not just to answer this question (I guess that means I wasn't particularly knocked out by this album).

What I can say is that the two tracks from this album I still feel like listening to from time to time are Nobody's Hero and Between Sun and Moon.

I don't think that Between Sun and Moon is a great song but there's something really infectious about the chorus for me for some reason. I will get it stuck in my head at times for no apparent reason and the only cure is to play it again once or twice.
