JohnnyBlaze
A classic tune which isn't in my top 3 from that perfect album vs. The first or second best song on their last album .... Two great songs but no hesitation here--I'm going with the classic! :hail:
Cyclonus X-1
I'm going with Jacob's Ladder, one of my favorite Rush songs. I've never found Headlong Flight to be all that great. I enjoyed it a lot more live, but Jacob's Ladder during R40 was even more amazing.
Rick N. Backer
Rush were nearly perfect in the early 80s. But Headlong Flight is a really good tune.

Two great songs but no hesitation here--I'm going with the classic! :hail: I pretty much echo JB here. Although I'd have HF after the title track and The Anarchist.

DVD only though...didn't experience it live unfortunately.

Lucas
Headlong Flight is an excellent song, but Jacob's Ladder is of Biblical proportion
Fridge
Oh, lets see.....a song from one of their very best albums, when the band were on fire vs a song from an album nearly thirty years after their peak...
Segue Myles
Now I love Jacobs Ladder. But HF is easily a favourite of mine from an album I don't love.
YYZumbi
Im voting on Headlong Flight. I don't think Jacob´s Ladder is that good, very overrated song. Natural Science is a MUCH better song from same album.
EagleMoon
Odd matchup. They're nothing alike. Jacob's Ladder for me but I do like HF.
bean-tor
I certainly enjoy Headlong Flight, but there's no deliberation required--Jacob's Ladder is phenomenal and wins this easily for me. And like Cy said, while I feel that Headlong Flight is improved live, it's no match for how mind-blowing Jacob's Ladder was on the R40 tour.

And Typhoon's ((wasn't he Tugboat at first?)) bicep appears bigger than I remember. thirteen
Lyrics - Jacob's Ladder.Music - Headlong flight. I'm voting for Headlong Flight, only because IMO it is musically more exciting than Jacob's ladder ( IMO JL holds onto the same musical 'ideas' for too long). Jacob's Ladder Live R40 was however the highlight of the show.
diatribein
Neither! The worst song on Permanent Waves vs. a weak song on a mediocre album that is one of the most overrated songs in RUSH's entire catalogue. I went with the less popular choice because I at least listen to that song on occasion.
theredtamasrule
There's something very grand and epic about JL...builds along the horizon then thunders down a storm of awesomeness. Alex's solo is amazing and powerfully bluesy. It's a much better constructed song & the musical ideas are more interesting than HLF which is essentially a jam. A helluva jam, a great jam...a jam I love but I gotta go with Jacob's Ladder.

ReRushed
I think "Headlong Flight" is a very good song, especially live. But "Jacob's Ladder" has been one of my favorite Rush songs since I first heard it, so it's my choice.
