Ancient Ways
Wonder if this will turn into a train wreck like all the other vapor trails threads did. 6/

Digital Dad
Gave it a 6. Really played the crap out of it for several months upon release. Ive rarely listened toMost of it since but over half of it really stands out for me and those tracks would have made a better album, but I digress. ReRushed
It's a 7 to my ears. The remix helps a lot. A hellava lot. Overall, I find it suffers from a relentless sameness. I find it an album with no ebb and flow.
canadianice
10/10. Always loved this album, for personal reasons, and because it is really cool.
Lucas
The performance is inspired, but for me, the album suffers not from the production, but the fact that there is a lack of tangible riffs and songwriting chops - after two songs, you've heard just about all they had to offer .. It is easy to blame the sound/mix, but the songs just aren't fleshed out or developed .. 6/10 . . Edited April 15, 2017 by Lucas

You are quite harsh about later Rush so...this pleased me
Segue Myles
9/10 for me Only thing for me is...i don't love Freeze or Out Of The Cradle. But alongside Hold Your Fire, Grace Under Pressure, A Farewell To Kings and Moving Pictures, this is at the very top of the pile for me.

Over time, I have been able to take each album on its own merits and not obsess on comparing one album to another
Blue Barchetta
I voted it an 8. Love the songs and the playing, but have to really turn down the bass to make it listenable- which keeps it from being a 10. Have not tried the re-mix.
rocket ignites
If I mash up everything I like from the original and the remix, and try not to dwell on the production, I come up with a 7/10. Earthshine, Secret Touch, Vapor Trail, and Ghost Rider are the pillars of the album for me.

vaportrailer
I love it and think it's the most mature and heart-felt effort of their career. What this guy said. Between the original and remix, and cutting 2-3 songs as this bad boy is a little long for my ears, gotta give it a 10 for the amount of pleasure it's given me. NPs most raw and succinct performance. Top 5 Rush album for me!

The K Man
The performance is inspired, but for me, the album suffers not from the production, but the fact that there is a lack of tangible riffs and songwriting chops - after two songs, you've heard just about all they had to offer .. It is easy to blame the sound/mix, but the songs just aren't fleshed out or developed .. 6/10 I agree with your main point, although I am still pretty high on Freeze, Vapor Trail, Earthshine and Nocturne. There are glimpses of greatness in most of the other songs, but the arrangements are a bit clunky and some songs have great parts ruined by mediocre parts, like One Little Victory having that great into before going into those ugly verses.
